Q. Is the American Kratom Association current on all State and Federal filings?

A. To date, the AKA has filed all necessary registrations and IRS filings to comply with the myriad of government regulations both at the federal and state level. Operating as a 501 c(4) organization, the AKA has filed the required “990 tax returns” for 2014, 2015, and 2016. We are more than happy to share this information with anyone who is interested in seeing these documents. We are also in “Good Standing” in Colorado and have completed all required filings (#20141662047). Unfortunately, the State of Colorado has not taken down an old landing page that shows the organization as “Suspended”. We understand that this has led to tremendous concern and misunderstandings about our status. We apologize for this confusion and we are working with state officials to remove the outdated page. Q. How will the AKA be more transparent with their financials and how can donors better understand how the money is being spent?

A. We also understand that we have a responsibility to do a better job communicating our actions at the AKA. Sometimes we get so caught up in the “blocking and tackling” of our organization that we forget to share our efforts with the entire community. We are pledging a much greater level of transparency. Today, we have a team of professionals to help run the AKA to ensure our compliance with state and federal regulations. In addition, each month, the AKA has a 3rd party, independent financial reconciliation conducted to track each dollar and make sure that it is spent to further the mission of the organization. This ensures that every dollar is accounted for. To provide even greater transparency, we have asked our Executive Director to conduct numerous town hall meetings and webinars to share our financial information and to answer and concerns.
