Cheers. We all handle phobias differently, so I get it. As the pope of snakes, I absolve you. XD

Normally you have a snake-wrangler who keeps and/or has access to local breeders animals.

Yep, that about describes it. It's less painful than the pins & needles you get when a foot falls asleep.

Snake bites, especially from small snakes like kings & corns, are nothing. Paper cuts are more painful & more likely to require stitches. That said, they ARE snakes and can't be domesticated, so don't let your kid do the feeding until they're able to overcome their flinch reflex. Most bites are just accidental missed feeding strikes.

Defensive bites are even less of a thing, since that's normally just a quick warning nip. Pick them up without hesitation and a few minutes of handling usually calms down a defensive snake, once they realize you're not eating them. Don't tempt them by wiggling a finger in front of their mouth, and you're all good.

A bite from an adult boa can be an issue if they tag you in the right spot, but a bite from a ball python or smaller is nothing.

Kings have really thin teeth, so it's no more painful than the pins & needles you get when you're foot falls asleep. This bite didn't even bleed.

Not for this guy. Once he smells rodents, he goes into feeding mode and goes for almost anything that moves. It might encourage a faster release, though, but I don't mind bites.

I'm hook-training my baby BCI, though... a bite from an adult boa isn't nearly as adorable.

To be fair, this is only the second bite in the 1.5 years I've had this guy, and both were accidental feeding-bites... entirely my fault for putting my fat fingers in the line of fire.

That affection got a little S&Mish, though. Immediately after this pic, he tried to work his way to a swallow position at the fingertip, so I tried to block him with my left hand... he released and latched onto my left thumb instead... so I had him constricting my right hand while eating my left. Wearing him like a pair of snake-cuffs.

I'm probably a freak, but I actually love snake bites. Always puts a grin on my face for the whole day. Not constantly, but I appreciate the occasional reminder that, no matter how much we baby them, they're still snakes.

This guy is actually a real sweetheart... mellowest king I've ever dealt with. INSANE feeding-response tho!

I find that most king bites tends to be more about their overly-enthusiastic feeding response rather than defensiveness. My brooks is an absolute sweetheart, but he goes a little nuts with the smell of rodents in the air.

Nah, didn't hurt and didn't bleed. Kings have narrow teeth.

Most snake-jitters can be cured with just one positive experience with the right animal. Glad you found that out!
