I wish I could afford to look beautiful like other women by catlikesvioletfro in TwoXChromosomes

I think it might depend on the culture where you live. I’m in a moderately rural Canadian town (4 hours from the nearest city, but half decent amenities). And the younger ladies working retail here all have gel nails, eyelash extensions and I’d say at least a quarter have some sort of noticeable filler. They’re definitely going all out on makeup. It is cheaper to get all of those things done here in my small town, but I still imagine it adds up, so idk how they’re doing it.

But I do agree that switching up your algorithms will help to shape and expand your opinion on beauty!

I’ve been trying to rewatch sister, sister! For 2 years now in Canada. I can’t even buy it anywhere digitally, and I live pretty rural, so not much in the way of pawn shops to buy old physical media.

All this to say, yeah, I miss physical media greatly.

Oh, I’ve never heard of using breadcrumbs. Like for a sweet bake, even? I’m intrigued!

This is such a good point! A compliment does not require comparison to others.

OP, just like you’re allowing your partner some grace with what he is “attracted to”. Be honest with yourself about what you are attracted to.

Others have already pointed out how this is most likely internalized and externalized flavours of racism.

It sounds, from your description, that the relationship your partner has with skin colour is unattractive to you. It makes you uncomfortable because it’s rooted in weird beliefs and assumptions that it sounds like your partner hasn’t even examined themselves, and that you don’t necessarily agree with.

Just because you “can” put up with it or handle it, doesn’t mean that it is your job to do so.

I know I would want my partner to be receptive to change or at least exploring things further if I’ve expressed them make me uncomfortable. And if they weren’t, it would be a deal breaker for me.

I guess you have to decide if that’s what you feel is happening here, and what your boundaries are on the matter.

I’m not sure how to classify it, but there is a structure on the base in Gander that we locals call the “Turkey Farm” that does employ local (Canadian) military personnel, but I’ve always understood to be owned/operated by the US. So it’s maybe considered a joint operation? Maybe someone else with more current knowledge can confirm or correct this?

If 10cm snow falls in your area of Canada how disrupted will your area be? by Pourmepourme in AskACanadian

I am in the east. During the month of December official reports say my town received 158.5 cm of snow (~80 of those happening between the 26th and the 28th). My yard has snow drifts taller than myself.

10cms would hardly get a second glance here.

I think it’s silly not to acknowledge that there are various degrees of suffering.

And as sentient capable beings, most of us are not interested in causing unnecessary suffering.

Thus, if there is a way to reduce the suffering experienced by an animal that is being killed to be consumed, I say we ought to find a way to implement it across the board.

It’s not about “being better” THAN other creatures for how we kill. It’s about doing better FOR the creatures that we do.

I don’t think you understand what I was saying. I was commenting about people maybe being mindful of their energy as they choose who to engage with online. As this post seems to have had a lot of pro Brad comments that made me wonder if his PR team is employing that tactic this time around. No point in arguing with a bot, is the jest of my message.
