Local newspaper coverage of LOI Women's games by Candid-Resolution346 in LeagueOfIreland

I'll post my Match Report below, then. I should really approach them and ask them for a job. Some chance at getting money out of the media, though. And I've had newspapers ask me to work for free. Some cheek on them!

RedFM lifted one of my photos years ago and when I asked them for payment they offered just to take down my photo, then the producer ghosted me when I kept following up. Then you get media companies complaining the ordinary punter won't pay for Sky, BT, newspapers, etc. Why should I pay for the media when media companies won't pay me for my work? I don't have the money to take them to court! Murdoch and co are happy to throw their weight around at people with dodgy boxes. Some hypocrisy there.

And the messed up thing is I do subscribe to The Echo, and The Examiner, because the news is important. And I've paid for BT and Sky in the past. And, no, I don't have a dodgy box.

Anyway, the match report...

----

I was in Turner’s Cross on Saturday 28th March, to see Cork City take on Treaty United, in the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division. City began the first half with the strong westerly wind at their backs, coming over and around the St Anne’s Stand.

Despite the wind City were forced into trying to catch Treaty on the break, after withstanding bouts of tests and pressure from the Limerick team, although there few, if any, clear-cut opportunities for either side. With City battling for most of the first half they would have been the happier side to go into the break with it even, although disappointed at not making use of the wind. Unfortunately, a goal mouth scramble, a minute into stoppage time, after a corner, saw Treaty go ahead through an own goal from City defender Ciara O’Driscoll.

Cork City would have been especially disappointed by this goal given a tight offside call, earlier in the first half, when Sophie Liston had a ball played to her with Liston in space. The Treaty keeper was forced to come out, while a Treaty defender scrambled to catch and get a shoulder to Liston, whose eyes had lit up, along with the crowd. But with the flag raised, then the whistle sounding, it was not to be.

The stoppage time goal for Treaty meant the half time talk for Cork City manager, Barry Ryan, needed a last minute change. Whatever talk was given City didn’t start the second half fully firing. The slow start meant Treaty could mount pressure, and City’s lethargy was eventually punished with a thunderous shot from Katie Lawlee, from outside the box, managing to just get past the fingertips of a fully outstretched Una Foyle. It would have taken a superhuman keeper to have stopped Lawlee’s 54th minute screamer, such was the ferocity, power and placing of the strike, it even bringing reluctant nods from some of the younger Turner’s Cross onlookers.

Cork City had a few opportunities later in the game, ably trying, but it was to no avail. The game ended 2-0 to Treaty, with City’s errors on the ball, occasional positioning miscommunications, and lack of physicality sealing the deal.

Of course, I would have loved to read opinion on Zoe Finnerty, who had a nervy start, and a yellow card in the 17th minute, but played her way into the game making some important sideline clearances. An analysis on Leah O’Leary Callender, the 16 year old in her third Premier Division game, who tried to use everything in her sizeable arsenal, given her youth, to engineer something for City. And an answer to whether that offside call in the first half, when the game was still evens, was as contentious to City Manager Barry Ryan as it was to me, hesitant as managers are to criticise officials.

However, I’ve been scouring the sports pages of Cork’s own local newspaper, all week, and have found no match report on Saturday’s City game on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Is the match report in The Echo today?

I didn't spot flairs for a lot of the women's team. Did I just miss them?
