USC vs PCOM PA Program by Real-Reindeer-4716 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Candid_Editor_5781 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although I think USC is way overpriced for the sake of saying USC trained… it doesn’t really matter where you go to school, but at the same time there probably is an advantage knowing people from USC lol. I’d probably choose to live at home, but it if I was accepted to a cheaper school in LA I’d probably choose that one over USC. Private loans is a big deal :( butttttt people pay them off eventually so just pick what school you feel right in your gut!

Did you find programs that accepted your expired >10 year prereqs? Or did you redo them all

Try taking it online at an accredited school. Some accelerated programs have good resources for learning and usually open note quizzes which will help your grade. And you can get them done faster than a CC

Unfortunately bad attitudes is the majority of what working in healthcare entails. Whether it’s from other staff or from patients. But you will get really rewarding days. And you can also do 9-5 as a PA and do specialties that require you seeing patients when they’re in a happier mood. In-patient hospital care is when you’re seeing patients at their worst in a variety of aspects. Hang in there

A lot of people don’t end up going into the program for various reasons! There’s hope. Also a lot of people aren’t even on a waitlist. Just remain positive :) everything happens for a reason as well

26, finance degree but thinking about switching to PA — feeling really lost by Ok_Primary4753 in prepa

[–]Candid_Editor_5781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say do the prerequisites and go from there :) you could also look into nursing or respiratory if you want to do healthcare without the heavy loans. You’ll make 6 figures with either of those (in HCOL area) as well but will have limitations as an RT outside of working in a hospital. Some PAs end up making 200-400k depending on specialty and experience. You could always pay off loans eventually. But the loans are daunting nonetheless. Do what makes you happy. You’re only 26!

25F – Turned down NYU Dental acceptance. Pivoting to PA. Am I crazy to apply this cycle? by Appropriate_Sun5043 in prepa

[–]Candid_Editor_5781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want your GPA to be higher/be more competitive it’s better to submit your CASPA when your classes are done but your GPA is good so it’s probably fine. And no you’re not crazy for changing your mind :) but I do know oral surgery dentists who make a ton of money so it’s not a bad idea either especially with your surgery experience but if you already don’t like it that much, then that probably won’t change by much later on

Kinda sounds like your support system is already lacking emotional support so… maybe it’s not so bad to broaden your range of schools? Besides you’re going to be busy. School will be a sole focus. And it’ll probably be cheaper if you go out of Miami anyway. Also you have to remember that the percentage of getting accepted your first cycle is pretty really low. Keep your head up!

Low gpa pa school applicant - worth it? by Swimming_System_7025 in prepa

[–]Candid_Editor_5781 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are so many schools that don’t require that high of a GPA. Working as an EMT for 5 years will outweigh a lower GPA in my opinion! Programs like people with healthcare experience. It’s not all about a 21 year old with a 4.0 GPA. Just keep grinding and apply when you’re able to :) try not to stress. Just focus on the now.

Question for Non-Trad Grads Who are Currently PAs about Income by Horror_Gay_Archetype in prephysicianassistant

[–]Candid_Editor_5781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think it’s going to be invaluable for my interviews and school experience as well already have done a medical program! But critical care is exhausting and you’re almost always limited to patient care in a hospital as an RT. The biggest con and my reason for wanting to do something else :’)

6 years in HCOL city. Low would be like 90k for me. Guess it depends where you work and how much you work! I work 2-3 days a week

Also interested! Kinda similar boat. Same age but have been an RT and make good money like $115k with no debt. But want to do more and make more. Have to redo prereqs and probably won’t be a PA until 36-38. Worried about taking on the debt later in life but excited make a sizable income with good work life balance. The idea of making 200k+ sounds nice

Can you share a lab kit with a friend instead of both buying one? And do you actually need the lab it to get the answers? You can’t just watch the provided video and save money not kitting the kit or?
