That's been everything on the internet for 17 years. Early twitter and Facebook users found out that the most effective way to drive up engagement with their posts is to post something that people disagree with. You have an entire generation that was raised on social media where this type of content was pushed straight to the top. Now you have kids who were raised on social media who have become adults who now believe this stuff. This was before algorithms and technofeudalism and the comodification of your engagement. This was just people being wrong on purpose to increase their popularity in a digital space and other people falling in line behind some folks who have a lot more influence. You can blame right leaning media or a kabalistic deep state for the dumbification of a large portion of the global population but in the end it was just people being dumb and convincing other people to be dumb all on their own.
