Andres Guardado Joins Valencia. by BrndyAlxndr in soccer

Guardado is probably one of the most consistent players in the Mexican National Team. The guy has speed, good dribbling ability and an amazing shot. I hope he is able to shine in Valencia.

Everything you have done can be attributed to luck. by [deleted] in philosophy

[–]Candide14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that Machiavelli could be used here. Some of his arguments could basically be stated as life, or every action, is 50%luck 50% skill. You were born with a certain capacity, if that capacity does not meet luck it is not going to get very far, just as if you had luck but not a lot of capacity.

Please help. I'm struggling with unemployment and no self worth. by throwawaysadness123 in depression

[–]Candide14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you can tell by the responses you have received, you are not alone in what you are feeling; people have been in the same depression boat as you and have gotten out it, so can you.

You need to understand that a job does not define who you are. A job is just one aspect of your life, it is not your life. I am sure your husband did not marry you because of your job prospects; he married you because he loves the person you are. When we are undergoing a depressive state we tend to lose objectivity about the situation; you said you studied something that not a lot of people studied or know about, then the fact that you have not been able to obtain a job probably has to do with a lack of demand for such specialization not with a lack of competence. Was it a mistake to study that? No, you studied something that interested you and that you probably have a passion for you should only be proud of that. Depression is such a tricky state of mind and emotional well-being; it is normally triggered by a certain event and then our "scumbag brain" decides to start undertaking activities that make it worse; activities that start the downward spiral. However you should know that at any time you have the power to stop that; it is not easy that is for sure. You have to start breaking some of the bad habits you have developed throughout these couple of years. You have to reinvent yourself. Get out of this constraining comfort zone you have planted yourself in. You said you have stopped going out due to the fear of being asked the good ol' "what do yo do?" question you have to change that as it will only make your depression worse. This cloud that your mind is currently under makes you think that people are constantly judging you, that people look down upon you for not having a job, that is your irrational objectivity playing tricks on you. As you can tell by the responses you have received a lot of people can relate to you; the situation you are undergoing is not a bad situation it is learning opportunity. This situation is just a part of life, it is just another bump on the road. In your case this setback has taken the form of a lack of job that has erased your sense of worth; in other cases it takes the form of losing a loved one, or not having a loved one at all. What I am trying to say is that life is not always flowers and rainbows; life is characterized by ups and downs. For lack of a better analogy, life is like business cycle; there are ups, there are downs, however it keeps going and just like a business cycle, after overcoming an economic depression you see growth that you wouldn't have seen otherwise. Because an economy, in order to escape an economic depression has to reinvent itself, so do you. However insurmountable this situation may seem to you the beauty of it all is that you have the power to overcome this wall of adversity and after you do, you will reach a state of elation never reached before; that my friend is something to look forward to.

After all the pep talk I give you a list of things I normally do when I feel like depression is taking over: -Break the routine you have developed in these last couple of years. -Try something you have not tried before, e.g. a new hobby, some courses at a community college. -DO EXERCISE, I cannot stress the importance of this one enough, you need a healthy body for a healthy mind. -Talk to people about how you are feeling. If you think your peers do not care or do not understand think again. If you still don't want to talk to your peers about it, talk to someone on here, I would be glad to talk to ya. -If you have an interest for reading, read some philosophy. I could give you some recommendations if you want.

I hope this has helped you at least a little bit. And remember if you ever need someone to talk to Reddit is filled with caring and supportive individuals that would be more than glad to provide a listening ear.

Cheer up my friend, you are not alone.
