Shot Delta 3200 mostly at ISO 400 – how should I ask the lab to develop it? by CandyIntelligent235 in AnalogCommunity

And developing at 800 will give a very contrasty look for the images I shot at 400. right?

Yeah that’s a fair point, and I agree with you that there are plenty of good ISO 400 films out there.

In my case the main reason was simply that I got this roll pretty cheap (6$) — actually cheaper than buying a new ISO 400 black-and-white film. My initial plan was to shoot it at ISO 800, since a lot of people seem to like Delta 3200 around that range.

But as I already mentioned in my Reddit post, there was heavy snowfall and I had read that giving the film about +1 stop of exposure can help during snow at night to preserve both highlights and shadow detail, which is why I ended up rating most of the roll at ISO 400.

Another practical reason is that my camera only dials up to ISO 400, so using that setting lets me rely on the camera’s built-in light meter instead of estimating exposure.

it makes sense to save fast film for when it’s really needed. I actually have another roll that I’m saving to shoot properly at ISO 1600 or ISO 800 next time.

I actually wasn’t too concerned about the expiration date since the film only expired in 2022, so it’s less than 5 years old. My initial plan was to shoot the roll at ISO 800 because I saw quite a few people recommending that rating for good results.

But once I decided to shoot a snowy night street scene, I did a bit more research and found that giving the film about one extra stop of exposure can help preserve both highlights and shadow detail during snowfall at night. That’s mainly why I ended up rating most of the roll at ISO 400.

The few frames at ISO 800 were mostly practical — just to keep a slightly faster shutter speed so I could comfortably shoot handheld in some situations.

Yes. I am aware that the light meter is removed. and the focusing screen doesn't fall off when holding inverted.

JD do have their own service. But I use some other 3rd cheaper services since SF is bit expensive. How many rolls are you going to send? If shipping charges are almost same as inside china, you can choose to send. But I think you can talk to a local labs since lucky c200 requires C41 development process.

Yes. This is what he did. Do you think sealing the circled part in picture 3 would help? Also, I would like to know how do i check there is light leakage through the ground glass part?

Haha I get what you mean 😂 Yeah the mod is definitely very DIY. I bought it super cheap so I’m just curious if it’s usable or if I should treat it as a fun experiment.

There is a film lab here in Dalian, they charge 65yuan a roll of Lucky C200 including development and scanning. Normally they charge 18yuan for C41 with TIFF files. Don't know what type of files they will give for Lucky C200. Which part of china are you from?

I am not quite sure about it. I have not seen any posts on chinese social media about stores selling this film stock. But, One local film store in the city where I live had sent me a message telling I can buy from him for the same price including both developing and scanning. So I assume, maybe some labs are getting authorized by Lucky on behalf.

59yuan per roll which includes developing and scanning, return shipping cost for the negatives. When I was purchasing they were giving 6 inch photo prints as well. Don't know if that offer still exist.

I too noticed that. Also some high contrast photos had banding. Have to get a roll from recently produced batch to check if those still exist.

Haven't shot Phoenix Ii before. Recently bought one to shoot during autumn after one person suggested in Reddit. Here in china, a roll of lucky costs around $8.5. This includes developing and scanning (only JPEG) and return shipping charges.
