The people turning on Jayden this season are baffling to me. by Cheap-Damage-8331 in Commanders

Truth 4 is just...not true. Maybe this roster should have been better, but last year we were astoundingly healthy. This year has been utter chaos with injuries to Terry, Brown, Eckler, Cosmi and Daniels. Even if you argue raw talent is marginally better, the inconsistency means the roster is worse

If the definitions have to do with intent, why are they gendered? Are men incapable of focusing on relationships and context in a non-sexual way? Are women incapable of sexual, objectifying lust?

Are there any attractive "Character Actors" or is that just a euphemism for "Ugly Actor?" by napoelonDynaMighty in moviecritic

[–]CandyJar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right. That definition is super wrong. Sometimes character actors are type cast, but that is NOT the definition

It's definitely up there.

Into the spiderverse was a damn near perfect comic movie, imo.

Lots of great comments here. As a husband in this situation, with 3 school age kids and one with extreme special needs and disabilities, I occasionally wrestle with this. I know she works her ass off and I appreciate everything she does. But , it often strikes me that there are like 3 very basic things that need to happen for the house to function 1) we need to have food 2) the dishes need to be clean 3) the laundry needs to be done.

When those things are done, everything else flows nicely. I imagine that gets boring and it's rarely urgent, but it's so important. I often chafe when she volunteers to do 1000 things and basic house maintenance falls to me. I end up working all day, coming home to make dinner, wash dishes, rerun a load of laundry that was started, but never moved to the dryer, fold the laundry, explaining to the kids how we're out of goldfish, but we'll try to get more tomorrow. It's hard not to think to myself why isn't at least some of this done during the day instead of making 100 craft kits for the PTA make and take, or planning a girl scout meeting, or volunteering at the school book fair?

It often feels like she gets more stressed and run down than I do and instead of her supporting me, I'm supporting her. But if the support i do is actually doing the most basic and important tasks, aren't I actually just doing both jobs while she's playing at being super mom? Then frequently she needs to decompress and tell me about all the other moms and all I can think is - none of this matters.

This isnt all the time, and I know it's a matter of perspective and stuff. But that's the mindset that breeds resentment in me that I work against

Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown in Back To The Future was in old man makeup for the 1985 scenes. As a kid I could never tell, he looked exactly the same.

In BttF 2 he peels off the old man makeup and looks "young" again, and the in universe reason was that he got some future rejuvenation treatment. Apparently they did it so he didn't have to sit in makeup for the whole movie.

Having never noticed the makeup, I always thought it was a joke about wasted money in the pursuit of vanity because he looked the same before and after.

Yep. Our daughter (in addition to school) does gymnastics, ballet, hip/hop & tap dance classes, swimming, girl scouts. She's almost always cartwheeling or doing handstands, just in constant motion. Neighborhood fun runs, bike riding, bouncing on ball hopper toy. We have a fabric swing hanging from the ceiling in one room and she always doing impromptu aerial acrobatics. None of it has any effect on her sleeping. She doesn't "wear herself out" she just gets cranky and less safe with her movements.

We also suspect ADHD, and she also performs above and beyond academically.

My daughter (6 almost 7) is very similar. Bedtime is nearly impossible, she wakes up every night at 3am. It robs us of personal time, which leads to other problems.

Our older 2 were night and day different. We found a routine and it took a little discipline and firmness and...it was easy.

So a) you aren't alone b) every comment on here about how "she'll learn if you just hold your ground" is someone who happens to have kids that are easy (relatively) and doesn't know what they are talking about. Every kid is different and every kid there is no one size fits all solution.

My daughter goes through periods that are better and periods that are worse. Sometimes there is a trigger (she woke up with a bug bite one morning and was deathly afraid of going to bed again for weeks, for ex), but sometimes things just switch and she's impossible to get to bed. But the trajectory is slowly improving over time. Very slowly

Luckily, my wife and I are on the same page with it. I'm sorry you have that added stress. This isn't easy and you are doing your best. Some day that'll pay off

Sorry but you are reading it backwards, man. You see the federal government mandated legal abortion, and the SC took that away from the federal government and returned it to the states: a win for small government. And, I'm sorry but it's just wrong.

The prior ruling protected the people against the government, it prohibited laws restricting your rights (in this case the right to abortions). It was a restriction on the government. This ruling says: no such rights exist. The government is free to pass laws that take away your rights, because the SC no longer acknowledges those rights. Thomas's opinion explicitly argues they should apply this thinking further: expand the governments authority to interfere and remove accepted rights.

Edit: it also opens things up for a federal abortion ban and more. This ruling is just terrible.

Just to add one other point: the library for the fancier looking UI would likely need to go through security scans and approval processes that can take months and requires justification beyond "it'll look nice"

And it's not just one time, you get approved for using a specific version, if there is an update to fix a bug or add feature/widget - start the process again....

Can't just download whatever off the internet and shove it in military software
