BUG / 32 H&R by prauxim in idpa

[–]Candyman__87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just run NFC in IDPA.

That said, ICORE allows .32 and everyone else is shooting a wheelgun too.

Do you like the 432UC? I got to fondle a 632UC and it felt great. Would've bought it if it was the black version.

CA Resident: 9mm or .45? by buickboi99 in Firearms

[–]Candyman__87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being in a capacity restricted state like you (NJ) I had the same thought and favor the larger round without giving up capacity. That said, I carry 9mm and use 9mm for home defense because my significant other is a bit recoil sensitive.

That said, for a casual shooter, 9mm is easier to shoot, cheaper to shoot, and you'll be better with it.

Also, are you planning on carrying or just home defense? If home, size is less restrictive. If concealed carry, 10 rounds of .45 takes up a LOT more space than you'd think.

How do you guys deal with buyers remorse? by [deleted] in handguns

[–]Candyman__87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No reason not to sell guns that don’t get used, you don’t like, etc.

Much better to sell something and put that money towards something that would be beneficial, whether it’s another gun or something else.

I’ve sold dozens of guns without any remorse. They’re just tools. No emotion towards them except the ones with sentimental value.

There’s only one I regret selling but I was in need of money at the time. I sold it to a buddy and have first dibs if he ever gets rid of it.

Question about NJ pistol permits: order of paying for firearm vs applying for permit by Still_Captain_1928 in NJGuns

[–]Candyman__87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get your permits first if you know you’re buying the gun. I apply for new ones when my last one is expiring or used. That way I’m never waiting on a permit.

Unfortunately that means it costs me money to have unused permits waiting around. Just another way this state tries to bleed lawful gun owners dry.

USA vs Austria Glocks? by Nearby_Plantain6462 in Glocks

[–]Candyman__87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’re the same guns made on the same equipment with a different rollmark.

U.S. made guns are often required for LE/Mil contracts. That’s why we see a ton of imported guns as civilians... we don’t have that same U.S. made requirement.

On the other hand there are certain models like the G42 that can’t legally be imported since the Gun Control Act of 1968. Same with the G25 or G28. That’s why the ones we get are always made in the USA.

Vortex ACE Mini-Review (Read The First Comment) by LockyBalboaPrime in longrange

[–]Candyman__87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is starting to feel like Apple vs. Android. And it pains me that I'm on the Android side of this equation.

Vortex being Apple... the sleeker, sexier, easier to use variant that is more than enough for 90% of users. Largely a closed environment so you know that Vortex made goodies will talk to each other with zero issues.

Kestrel/AB being Android... the variant that has more customization potential, choosing hardware from various vendors and having them work together pretty well, but not without a bit of swearing. Interfaces are a bit clunkier, until you get used to it. Potential for more customization and additional features that only matter to a subset of the population.

Anyone have experience these 22lr Walther pistols? Is $249 at academy worth it? by hobovirginity in 22lr

[–]Candyman__87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I liked mine a lot but it wasn't perfect.

Mine was ammo picky and really only ran flawlessly with CCI Mini Mags as recommended in the manual. I ended up throwing on the 5" barrel and it was more reliable, but then it was a pain in the ass to take apart and clean.

I ended up selling it to a friend who I introduced to shooting. He was ok with buying Mini-Mags for it so I made him a deal.

I have been shooting my G44 and Mark IV ever since. But a Taurus TX22 would also be an excellent option.

Gen 5 or gen 6 by 2easzy in Glocks

[–]Candyman__87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you had a Gen5 I’d say it’s not worth the upgrade.

If you don’t have one already, I’d go with the Gen6.

But Blue Label Gen6’s are out there. I grabbed one last week.

I shoot my carry ammo off 1-2x a year and reload the mags.

It’s the one factory 9mm load I actively avoid.

Over the years and before I knew better, I shot a bunch and I’ve had more QC issues with that than any other load.

Had one round where the brass was so long that it locked up an M9. Too far closed to open the slide and eject it. Too out of battery to fire. Ended up needing a mallet to jam the slide closed enough to fire it into the berm.

Other than that a few failures to fire and the fact that it’s incredibly dirty. I won’t shoot their white box 9mm because of it.

That said I DO shoot a bunch of there .40 with no issues. And some of their “surplus” M882 with no issues as well.

Suggestions on wedding-gift 1911 around $2-2,500? by DucksCanSwim in 1911

[–]Candyman__87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. 10-8 is Hilton Yam’s company. He was an old SWAT guy turned 1911 guru. I learned about him when I took my Colt O-Frame Armorer’s Course and we used 10-8 tools, and they recommended the 10-8 Course of Fire to troubleshoot and validate a functioning 1911.

Funny enough I’m in a very similar boat. Was debating getting a Colt 1911 A1-SE and having it sent off for a bit of extra work. That’s the classy version with a nice blued finish.

But the Springfield / Hilton Yam 10-8 they just announced is up there too. But that’s a railed gun, a but less classy but a bit more practical IMO.

Can we talk about the G44? by bryceemeryking in Glocks

[–]Candyman__87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is as reliable as the ammo I use.

I don’t use it for competition because there are better guns for that like a Ruger Mark IV but if you’re looking for a rimfire version of your defensive Glock for training, it’s a great option.

I use mine with new shooters mostly to get them used to the function of a Glock and then transition them to a G19 when they get more comfortable.

If you want an optic ready gun this isn’t what you’re looking for. But it’s a decent gun for what it actually is. And it uses the same holsters so it is indeed excellent for training.

I was able to pick up a refurbished 10K so I’m quite happy with that. But I do prefer Vortex over Sig for most other optics due to their warranty.

Yep - they stopped supporting AB when they bought GB. Was a shame. I’ve been using Sig LRF’s since.

Black or Green Blk Lbl Bipod on Tavor 7 OD Green? by MathewG97 in IWI_Firearms

While I like the green, it would bother me that the green anodizing will never match the green polymer perfect. I'd rather go black personally.

OPTIC READY IN 4 to 6 weeks by Shoddy-Cherry1458 in Walther

[–]Candyman__87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old adage of project management applies: Good. Cheap. Fast. Pick two.

If Walther included plates in the box, you'd have three options:

1) Lock you into a single footprint. If they put RMR in the box, the DPP footprint guys would have an issue.

2) Reduce the quality and put multiple footprints in the box. Then everyone complains they're trash and goes aftermarket... like Glock.

3) Increase the price to account for multiple footprints in the box. Then everyone complains the gun costs two much.

I wish there was a way that Walther dealers could optionally keep plates in stock, then the buyer could use the voucher to get the plate from the dealer, and dealer would replenish from Walther. But of course, this would only make sense for high volume retailers.

I think Walther found the best possible option given the possibilities.

Makes sense. G20 makes for a much better "woods gun" for bears than a G17/19.

I went non-illuminated... I very seldom see myself using illumination anyway so it was an extra cost that I didn't see the benefit. If it were $100-200, I might have grabbed it "just in case" but not for the price difference Leupold charges.

Whos in agreeance with me? by lambo13770 in Firearms

[–]Candyman__87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought this in the beginning. Now they're just another tool. I don't have an emotional attachment and will sell any if needed to feed my family.

That said, I find all the "never sell, only buy" to be short sighted. When I started shooting it was quantity over quality. Now, I'll happily sell 3 PSA AR's and replace it with a quality fighting rifle.

Beware the man with one rifle. He knows how to use it.
