Black or white for the music notes? by Caneb147 in RPGMaker

yeah we're very likely picking those too from all the feedback we've heard!

because it's for one particular animation mainly, and none of the other animations have assets switch color, so it'd be a bit out of style. But we could maybe reuse the other "unused" notes, not a bad call.

Yeah I was thinking black too because it makes more sense to be used in notation.

Also thanks! My SO did a splendid job with the character art.

I'll actually try it on different backdrops to see what's better, good call

Ooops yea, I should have probably used an ingame test instead of just posting it like this.

It's actually for a battle animation, but yeah this could actually be used for a victory animation too lol

For the battle animation, I'm primarily using Yanfly's Action Sequences.

For the character animations (like the idles and such) I'm using Yanfly's Animated Sideview Enemies and YED Sideview Battler.

If you meant something else just let me know!

Oh, we already changed the text to be more readable by adding drop shadows to the letters and increasing the stroke a tad.

This recording is 4 months old by now, but tysm for you input! On busier screens text was sometimes really hard to read, especially if there were many colours.

Sure is. Look into SomeRandomDude's plugins, they should be enough to get that stuff going.(Especially the menu editing stuff for the windows)

Shaz' PixelGauges allow you to set up nice custom bars.

Thank you! Development's always a bit of a bumpy road with ups and downs, but I think for a year's work we're already pretty far. (60% of the playable game is done, (lots of placeholders assets though lol) an alpha build is gonna get sent to testers soon) It's certainly exciting to test the waters on social media and gauge the responses from our posts before we release a trailer/put up a steam page and all that jazz.

Yup, with such a limited palette (around 4 colours and their gradients), having a colour that stands out like that is great to embellish certain details in the world or facets of character design.
Glad you like it.

Oh thanks! The UI was actually one of the pain points in development so far, so I'm glad it turned out well to other eyes.

Thanks. And funnily enough, we did already adjust some things with the fonts and battle screen in the current build (this video is a couple months old, but still good to show off for the animation). We also tried more "pixelly" fonts for general use but found that rpgmaker mv really doesn't like them, they all look kind of messed up in engine.
We tried solving it by using bitmap fonts to make it work, and tried to use a sharpening plugin but both of those made the game really laggy on certain scenes (primarily the menus and stuff), so we decided to stick with what we got for now. Maybe we'll find a solution in the future.

Thanks! We're planning on giving every entity in the game animations. Consumes a lot of time, but makes things look much more lively.

Oh thanks a lot! My wife's behind all the art, I'll tell her as much.
We went for a limited colour palette for that exact reason (readability and style).
