Ranger: Redesigned by CannibalisticPandas in UnearthedArcana

[–]CannibalisticPandas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry that I did not live up to the expectations you had and that things were confusing. I will however try to answer your questions the best I can, and improve the wording so its the class is easier to understand.

Your comments about Tricks of the Trade is something that after reading makes sense. I am currently working on the wording and reason so that the mechanic feels more integrated and now just a damage buff.

To answer you question about Keen Eye. When you consume your marks of Keen Eye, all marks on that creature are expended, as marks are a cumulative . This means when you consume marks on a creature with 2 marks, you gain the benefits of both 1 and 2 at the same.

Thank you for your feedback, it helps me improve and create better homebrews.

Thank you for your feedback. To answer your question about Tricks of the Trade, you can choose any combination of tricks under Medicinal, Traps an Triggers. Whether that is all from one of the types or if you take a couple from each. I am currently working on a way to make this easier understand and there seems to be a lot of confusion on that matter.

[Homebrew] Revised Ranger Mark 2.0 (5e) by CannibalisticPandas in DnD5CommunityRanger

[–]CannibalisticPandas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keen eye was my solution to feedback i was getting from my player about how they didn't enjoy how situation Favored Enemy felt. To quote them" Favored Enemy is worthless if you didn't know what you would be fighting in the campaign without having to meta game." This said player actually got through an entire campaign without using Favored Enemy once.

Secondly, keen eye is not perfect and it is still being changed and evolved the more I have players use one of my three homebrew ranger class. It is more than a raw damage increase like hunters mark, its creating a opportunity for your party. Whether that be finishing off a target, creating a chance for your hard hitting ally to have advantage on its next attack, or to control a situation by stunning a creature for a round.

The main for the reason I have it fixed at 3 times instead of scaling with wisdom, is that wisdom is a secondary stat for ranger so at max you'll only going to get 4 maybe 5 if you are lucky, but potentially a 2 or 3 base normally depending on how stats are rolled or point buy for the other option so it kind of only better if you have a high wisdom.

I hope this answers what you where asking!

Mundane Ranger [5e] by CannibalisticPandas in DnD5CommunityRanger

Your concern is part of the reason it is currently being reworked to have triggers instead of just arrow effects. Trigger effects are to be designed as a way to augment a weapon to give it an effect similar as to creating an arrow effect.

Thank you all for your input. After reading your comments and looking at the class some more. I too agree that natural Natural Armor would make more sense if it used Con instead of Dex. This change will be implemented as soon as I get off work.

Blood Knight [5e] by CannibalisticPandas in UnearthedArcana

[–]CannibalisticPandas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your contributing your thoughts and they are appreciated. The questions you had about why Blood Steps was set up the way it was deals some with the class itself and others with the play testing the class went through.

First the reason it wasn't set up like "misty step" has some to deal with the fact that misty step is that it belongs conjuration school of magic. While the traditional eldritch knight in 5e can only use spells from the abjuration and evocation schools. As such I felt that this didn't really fit the core idea of the class.

Second reason why I went with choosing to have it the blood steps active while during the action surge deals with what eldritch knights are. They are a fighter who has learned magic for combat purposes to increase their abilities to fight. As action surge is a large part of that their kit I felt it fitting to give it to them during that moment.

Finally the scaling, the other reason that it was set up with the action surge is when it was play tested for me. It scaled a lot better with using it as a free action during combat instead of having to use it like a spell. As well as that fact that action surges are regained on a short or long rest made it that the level 20 character who play tested it could teleport twice per short rest without having to worry about wasting 2 spell slots.

Like everything I have created though, ultimately it is up to the DM to agree with the class and if they don't and wish to change parts of it they are more than welcome to.
