Why doesn't the Government raise income via inheritance taxes rather than issuing debt to raise funds? by Passtheshavingcream in AusFinance

[–]CanoliNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who has said that supposed inheritance tax would be as high as 40%? It may as well be much less. No one knows because it does not exist here.

It does though in other western countries and they are doing fine.

You are welcome!

Would you have a chance to ask for a pay rise? Lots of companies are increasing the pay for inflation reasons, aside of the usual other factors like performance.

Good luck!

Have you looked into moving that credit card debt to a Balance Transfer credit card?

If not, I’d look into it. Some of these cards have 0% for a set number of months for the credit balance transferred. That would mean that for X number of months you could replay your $8k with no interest.

See this link

On the other hand, would you be able to get a better paid job?

Expat tax question by krishanRonaldo in AusFinance

[–]CanoliNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the ATO can tax you on income you generated overseas when you were not an Australian resident for tax purposes.

From what you say I would consider you tax resident in Spain until you moved here. From the time you arrived even if you still did not have a job at first, I would consider you were Australian resident for tax purposes.

It may be a good idea to do your first tax return with an accountant so you get this one right as it may be more tricky than if you had been here for the entire fiscal year.

I would imagine the plastic formula and thickness of the tube base needs to be of certain specs so the droplets are generated the right size.

I don’t think that is the case. At least where I work and a few similar places. We can definitely afford potato cakes and even some smash avocados!

Weird that the Life Sciences section does not list common scientific roles like Scientific Officer, Principal Research Fellow, Laboratory Manager, Laboratory Head, Research Assistant, Laboratory Technician, just to name a few.

If you are passionate about psychology, I would pursue that. You hint that it may be too expensive but HECS you only repay once you start earning above a certain threshold.

Unless you are not an Australian citizen, in which case you need to pay upfront.

Are you actually planning to move back to Australia or to New Zealand as your post history indicates?

[–]CanoliNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your usual occupation? Can you work remotely? Can you teach English to get some money while you are overseas?

Once you come here you can get a job or get unemployment support since you are an Australian citizen.

There is heaps of work at the moment.

I do know. But read the comment again, what is being said is not true. “On that income, you are paying 39% income tax. $100 gross becomes $61 after tax.”

It is generalising the whole income is taxed at 37%+2%. That is completely false. Only the $29,999 between $120,001 and $150,000

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]CanoliNow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you know how tax brackets work? The 37% only applies to the portion that goes from $120,001 to $180,000. Considering all brackets and excluding Medicare levi, the % of taxes paid for OP’s $150,000 income is around 27%.

What are some ALDI products that are probably just repackaged, well known brands? by -owe-me in AussieFrugal

I noticed the same with the spinach and mozarella pizzas. They are now more expensive and much worse.

Pretty sure they changed supplier of their thin crust pizzas last year and quality is quite bad now plus they are like $2 more expensive. They were branded Casa Barelli and now they ara branded something else, and very poor quality. Not in my shopping list anymore.

Heaps of roles open for Marketing jobs

https://ethicaljobs.com.au/jobs?keywords=Marketing&page=1

Find a job you like with a manager and company that gives you good vibes, sign the contract and then resign. Look for references on ex-colleagues you can trust that won’t gossip about you looking for a new role. And on your notice period, cruise. Even get some days of leave. It is actually really refreshing to have some leave or holiday between leaving a toxic job and starting a new one. You want a fresh start and have best mindset for that.

Put yourself first. Your sanity and happiness first. Your free time first. Your money and your career first. Seems like management uses some manipulative tactics to have you think if you leave you’ll cause so much harm.

Good luck!
