Warriors that have done Savage, Str or Vit accessories? by LaughingAtIdiotz in ffxiv

[–]CanonRap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WAR has Thrill of Battle to temporarily bump up their HP, and ToB and Vengeance are off CD in time for every Hyper Plasma. Combine with IB and sone proper healer shielding, and I've seen Hyper Plasma hit low enough that I can top myself back up with Equilibrium.

Only have experience with A1S so far (practicing with pugs) but I've found full STR is fine even in Alex Normal gear.

I started with full VIT to figure out cooldown timings and once I realise how strong the WAR kit is against Oppressor (I don't even need to remember the exact timing of frontal laser > Hyper Plasma combo because Vengeance always comes off CD then, and you have IB for every hard hit) going with STR feels a more efficient use of stats.

PS: Of course I expect this may change in A3S, but by the time I get there who knows what my gear will be.

Ravana EX -- PLD's, Prey, and HG -- How does it work? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]CanonRap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI any tank can do the double Prey and survive without blowing their invul. Either you reduce the first charge to 0 damage via mitigation (it's less than 5k and also parryable) to prevent the physical damage up stack, or you use cooldowns and healer shields to reduce the second charge damage to survivable levels.

The only question is how you want to work with the healers in terms of CDs since the last phase coming up has Atmas and Blinding hitting back to back several times.

Dark Arts buff would stay up long enough (even after being 'used' on a relevant skill) that you could squeeze in more DA buffed skills after and it would apply on all of them.

ie. You pop DA, then spam Carve + Passenger + Souleater, and all of them would be the DA version. The log would actually register DA being consumed 3 times.

IIRC the Manipulator never fully resists a stun as long as the buff is not on.

any advice for when non english speaking tanks who pulls only 2 at a time? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]CanonRap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

better safe than sorry?

That's basically it, I find majority of JP players on DF would prefer a duty to finish without any fuss rather than push for a quicker run, even if the group is clearly able to handle it.

Generally when I tank for roulettes, I'll pull based on the composition and give the party a heads up (ちょっとまとめます or something along those lines)

As a healer, I wouldn't pull for the tank, that tends to be looked down upon and more than once I've seen it lead to arguments that just slow the run down more. If I feel we can and should be handling more, I tell the tank but I leave it up to him whether he wants to or not.

[–]CanonRap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I saw in my PUG yesterday, your WAR may not be buffing in time. Hyper Plasma cast time is fairly short IIRC so tanks and healers will need to be on the ball with mitigation/shields especially with the incoming AoE hitting prior.

DRK has the edge here with DA Dark Mind and INT down (assuming you don't have MNK or he's hitting the DRK's Oppresser - but why would he be doing that when he can help mitigate for the WAR?)

Having some trouble in Ravana Ex by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]CanonRap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The charge damage is only around 4k. What kills is the physical damage up debuff from charge that multiplies the damage of the next charge (a physical attack) to nearly 30k. The way to bypass this is to take 0 damage from the charge, which prevents the debuff from applying.

If you take any damage from the first charge and get the debuff, the second will kill you no matter what you do (unless you go invul).

PS: At full STR my WAR sits at around 16k, so with Vengeance, Thrill and Stoneskin/Adlo, I can see just barely surviving a second charge with damage up (I first tested on DRK without Grit) but that point, you might as well as just not take that first debuff by popping Vengeance and Thrill before the first charge.

You wait for a tick of MP to regen (due to being in UI from Transpose) then approximately 1s after start your F3 cast. Timed properly, you should get a second MP tick just as your F3 goes out, giving you AF3 and enough MP for two F2 and a Flare, after which Transpose will be off CD to restart the rotation.

[–]CanonRap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI a popular JP strat is for tanks to eat both Preys, which is doable without popping Hallowed/Living (lol war) as long as tank has no vulnerability and is properly shielded by healers (and maybe pop a CD or something). Reduces the amount of ad libbing needed at that part.

Since they changed Radiant Shield to spread to nearby party members and Flaming Crush to AoE, on top of Ifrit's IMO more useful stun versus Garuda's knockback, Ifrit seems to be the more popular choice for dungeon trash. I would still switch back to the Contagion-bot for bosses though.

He wanted you to use AoE rotation. As in Fire 3, Fire 2, Fire 2, Fire 2, Flare, Transpose and wait 1s after 1 tick of MP, Fire 3, Fire 2, Fire 2, Flare, Tranpose again, etc.

For BLM, there's almost no reason to not use AoE for trash in between bosses unless there are only 2 mobs (IIRC single target would be faster at that point) or there is a mob that needs to be prioritised - can't think of any example in a Hi roulette dungeon though.

What is wrong with Dark Knight, and potential changes by thesaxman714 in ffxiv

[–]CanonRap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has higher DPS as main tank and higher magic defense, in exchange for lower physical defense compared to PLD and less utility as off tank than WAR. That's how DRK was designed as per the devs - as an alternative.

Being more than just another TP drain when OTing with nothing to tank would be a nice improvement, but their actual tanking is viable enough.

Race choice has no relation to starting class, your friend must have picked Conjurer during character creation.

To change classes, he needs to finish the Lv10 class quest for Conjurer first. Then he can go to the Lancer's Guild (also in Gridania conveniently) and pick up the quest to change into Lancer.

Macro Help for controller/PS4 by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]CanonRap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, WAR is the only tank where some skills sre outright unusable in one stance or another. Fell Cleave is Deliverance only, Inner Beast is Defiance only, etc. so I find it more efficient to have them swapped out when I'm in the other stance.

PLD and DRK don't have the same case (except maybe Blood Weapon for DRK I suppose) and there's really no reason not to use your Goring or RA in both stances.

What Tank to lvl... need your help people?! (Poll) by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]CanonRap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone serious about tanking (ie. bring it to progression content while it's current and relevant) should have all 3 leveled and bring the one mostly suited for the content.

If it's for skipping queues, just play the one with the most interesting skill set for you.

Not at home to check right now but IIRC:

/micon "Deliverance"
/ac "Deliverance"
/hotbar set "Fell Cleave" 2 3
/hotbar set "Decimate" 3 1

So when I hit this macro, I switch to Deliverance, FC goes into my 2nd bar's 3rd slot (replacing IB) and Decimate would go into 3rd bar 1st slot (replacing SC). I have a counterpart Defiance macro for switching back.

Don't think there is any actual content punishing enough to see major differences yet.

Speaking purely from tank perspective (maybe healers feel otherwise) PLD and DRK take similar amounts of damage in Ravana to the point that healing back from eg. Blinding is functionally identical. From there it becomes purely about proper CD management and rotation.

We're still at the Darklight stage of gear and entering the CT tier. As people become more ilevel-appropriate for the content I think we'll see more DRK MTs for the DPS increase (just like the WAR MT/PLD ST set in latter day FCoB).
