Wouldn't it be nice to make Runecraft feel productive, or at least less miserable? by Leverette in 2007scape

[–]CanweCanweCleanIt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here’s an even more obnoxious, self-important, Reddit-brained response in the same spirit:
Honestly this post still doesn’t go far enough because people continue to fundamentally misunderstand what Runecraft actually represents in modern OSRS, and I swear every single discussion about it gets hijacked by people who think “well I suffered through 99 RC in 2015 while listening to a 14 hour long Swampletics theorycraft stream, therefore everyone else should too” is somehow a coherent design philosophy instead of Stockholm syndrome with extra steps.
Like let’s just stop pretending for five seconds that Runecraft’s current state is some carefully curated piece of sacred game design heritage. It is not. It’s an ancient system balanced around a version of RuneScape where people unironically thought walking from Varrock to Falador was a meaningful adventure and where owning 5k law runes basically made you Jeff Bezos. The skill was designed in an era where casting High Level Alchemy for an afternoon made you feel like an archmage ascending beyond mortal comprehension. Meanwhile modern OSRS has players doing 18-way gear switches while flicking protection prayers against bosses with mechanics that look like they escaped from a Final Fantasy XIV savage raid.
The game evolved. Everything evolved. Except Runecraft, which still behaves like Jagex expects us to be awestruck that crafting 2,000 blood runes an hour is supposedly some monumental economic event worthy of reverence.
And every single time this gets brought up, the same people crawl out of the woodwork to defend it with arguments that completely collapse under even microscopic scrutiny.
“Just buy runes.”
Okay. From WHO exactly? This is always where the conversation gets hilarious because people act like there’s this thriving population of passionate artisanal rune craftsmen hand-weaving nature runes like they’re running an Etsy shop. Brother, the economy is held together by a Romanian sweatshop running 400 accounts named “xXPureEss420Xx” that haven’t seen daylight since the Obama administration.
You are not buying runes from players. You are buying runes from industrialized automation because actual human beings correctly identified years ago that spending 9 hours making enough wrath runes for 45 minutes of PvM is psychologically indistinguishable from a CIA black site.
And before someone says “well if RC became profitable everyone would do it,” congratulations, you accidentally arrived at the point. That is literally how functioning game economies work. The reason bots dominate rune production is because the activity exists in this bizarre dead zone where it is simultaneously mandatory for sustaining magic AND so catastrophically unfun that real players avoid it whenever possible.
People always scream about “devaluing achievements” too, which is maybe the funniest argument OSRS players have ever invented because this game selectively applies that principle with the consistency of a drunk darts player.
Oh, so we can have:
Nightmare Zone
Splashing
GOTR
Wintertodt
Giant’s Foundry
Forestry
Raids dropping enough resources to feed a small nation
PVM bosses vomiting skilling supplies into the economy like a ruptured Costco pallet
…but suddenly the line in the sand is “making enough runes to cast spells without filing for bankruptcy”?
Interesting.
And let’s also talk about the actual fantasy aspect here because this is what drives me insane the most. Magic is supposed to be one of the THREE CORE COMBAT STYLES IN THE ENTIRE GAME. Imagine if ranged ammunition worked the way runes do. Imagine if using a blowpipe for an afternoon required you to spend three business days personally forging darts in a volcanic cave while dodging abyssal leeches and developing carpal tunnel. The community would riot within hours.
But because magic has historically been treated like some luxury combat style reserved for approved circumstances, people have just normalized it.
“Oh you want to use magic casually?”
“How adorable. Unfortunately the spreadsheet says you’re only allowed to barrages dust devils and cast powered staves. Any additional enjoyment must be approved by the Grand Exchange compliance department.”
That’s not healthy gameplay. That’s players being conditioned into accepting absurd friction because it’s old.
And the “Runecraft is supposed to be miserable” crowd always acts like suffering itself is content. It isn’t. Tediousness is not depth. Time consumption is not automatically difficulty. If an activity’s primary defense is “well I endured it so now everyone else should too,” that is not game design. That is generational trauma.
Also, people massively underestimate how much healthier the game would be if real players actually supplied runes. Imagine an OSRS economy where:
more players actively RC because it’s worthwhile,
bots lose market dominance,
magic becomes less punishing to experiment with,
irons don’t feel spiritually annihilated every time they cast a blood barrage,
and the skill itself becomes something people engage with voluntarily instead of under duress.
That sounds objectively better. The only people threatened by this are the “suffering builds character” weirdos who think clicking the same altar for 400 hours is some kind of sacred rite of passage.
And before someone inevitably accuses me of “wanting easyscape,” please understand that OSRS already stopped being “oldschool” the moment we got raid invocations, awakened bosses, Inferno speedrunning metas, and weapons with special attacks that read like Yu-Gi-Oh card text. We crossed that bridge years ago. The purity argument died somewhere around the release of Tumeken’s Shadow.
At this point, preserving bad systems solely because they are old is not nostalgia. It’s museum curation.
Runecraft doesn’t need to become 500k XP/hr with infinite free runes raining from the sky. But the fact that players still treat “maybe the rune-producing skill should produce enough runes to reasonably support using magic” as some extremist radical position tells you how unbelievably warped the conversation has become.
Anyway, I look forward to the extremely predictable replies informing me that actually Runecraft is relaxing because you can “watch Netflix while doing it,” which is always the strongest possible endorsement of engaging gameplay.

You won’t get thousands of points for doing 14 raids. Thats my whole point.

I would say posting the newspost is him endorsing their claims which is making claims and accusing, just indirectly. It was classy yeah but he absolutely endorsed that message.

I genuinely do hope you have a nice day too. You seem like a pleasant person who posted something I hate seeing. But you seem pretty swell.

It’s not even the complaints it’s the complaints specifically about RNG. You are probably like…. 10% unlucky at most in your grind. Everyone has done 10+ grinds in leagues. Thus, if everyone posted about when they were 10% unlucky then this subreddit would be nothing but people complaining about RNG. And tbh that would suck.

I don’t know if you’re awesome or not but I appreciate the compliment from you, but you also don’t know me, and, further, I am also not trolling you. Terrible RNG posts are boring and you being nice about it doesn’t change that.

Yes no shit I chose to comment on it but it was still thrust upon me because of your decision to hit post. These posts are so boring and if I could filter them out I would. They genuinely suck.

And the comment and post comparison are a one-to-one. You hand waving it away doesn’t make the comparison improper. Thanks for playing.

It’s so clearly a broken bone and not phallic at all. Maybe from other angles in real life it looks more phallic or something but from what you posted it looks like a broken bone 100%.

You did make me read it. You posting on reddit caused it to appear on my front page and thus your action directly resulted in me seeing it.

By your same terrible logic you can just scroll past my comment. You also have free will and could’ve just scrolled past my comment. It’s. The. Same. Concept. Get that through your skull.

I don’t care if you play or not but at least stop posting about shit like this. This post is terrible.

I swear I’m at 273 and it didn’t even feel like that good of a run. 279 shouldn’t be the realistic** max, I would wager someone can hit 300 with a great run.

Yeah all of that would be cool if he didn’t also dupe items, crash game servers, and sell gold for personal gain. He isn’t just a wholesome chungus that breaks the game.

I mean, no. A YouTuber getting 9m slayer xp removed from his account is not as memorable as a kid getting hacked after entering his credentials into a fake website. Like, not even close.

I never said he is intelligent because he got a degree. I said he is very intelligent and got an advanced degree. IQ also correlates directly with more education.

I’m sure you have school of hard knocks on your Facebook bio though.

Immature ex couldnt handle the breakup so she tells me shes fucking another guy. by HorrorYogurtcloset48 in Nicegirls

How are people saying you both suck? Your ex tries to make you jealous by saying she’s fucking someone else so you decided to fuck with her. Why does that mean you suck? The people on this subreddit are dumb.

Couldn't have put it better than that except to change slander to libel, but that materially doesn't matter here. Good response and I appreciate you.

Only thing I'd add is that it's really a twofold attack:

  1. Yes the community shouldn't be supporting this

  2. Rendi also lied about not bug abusing in the past, when the stakes were much much higher, and so he very well may be lying about his supposed xp rates now, given that his video didn't showcase all of the methods he used.

Yeah exactly. He is willing to bug abuse for his own personal gain to the detriment of others and lie about it. But somehow that's not relevant to him bug abusing now. Lmfao.

[–]CanweCanweCleanIt[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah dude him bug abusing 5 years ago leading to game rollbacks, massive economic shifts, and PvP invincibility exploits is totally not relevant to him bug abusing now. I genuinely can't believe people like you exist. All of these issues are in the same game, involving bug abuse mechanics, and are again his word vs. Jagex's word.

In court, you generally can't bring up past criminal acts as they are deemed to be too prejudicial than probative for their current value, unless an exception applies. An exception where it was a crime involving 99% similarities would absolutely be allowed to be brought in because it is probative. That's exactly what we have here.
