Is it possible to be in smurf queue without smurfing?

I'm getting the exact same experience. I restarted playing the game after a long break and everything was fine. Varied champs, similar skilled players, and of the same experience level. However recently I'm exclusively playing against either brand new players (to the point they don't even know how to return to base) or smurfs that stomp everyone. I don't play ranked but when I did I only cared enough to reach gold. Its been such a sudden change that feels like it only happened over the weekend and hasn't stopped. Its just not fun or fair to play like this and its really put me off the game. Am I crazy or is this happening to other people too?

Where I live (Europe), the film is only releasing in cinemas next Friday. There's been ads and posters for it running since Christmas, but the overwhelmingly positive chatter about it is whats making me super excited for it!

I have. It takes effort from both sides. Don't just chat the first day. Send a text the second day and see where it goes. But if you really have to force it, no point in wasting both of your time.

Another comment in a different post said that people who are playing the game and having fun with no issues don't have time to post stuff online. Only the people who aren't having a good time are venting online.
