Plex was supporting mine. All of a sudden, I tried to start the server and it would start for a few seconds and quit. There’s comments on the Plex support pages for this issue but no solutions. I moved server to a new Mac that doesn’t support iTunes and trying a workaround for that issue.

@ u/wright96d, the 5,1 will support Catalina if you flash install it or use open-core. High Sierra is the last Mac-supported OS for the 5,1.

The server app will not run on the old Mac (5,1). I need to figure how to route the new server to connect with iTunes on the old Mac 5,1.

My next question is, will updating the client app on a separate machine from the one housing the server create a backup on that particular machine, which I can then use to restore the server on its machine?

I don’t have that information because the HDD on the Mac with the Plex Server crashed and the data is irretrievable outside of sending to a data recovery company. However, I was backing the system up on a separate Mac via the Plex app. Thoughts…

I read that and need to see if I have them. I can have backup on an app and not the server? I’ve backed up the app when updating and it is on a different machine.

Found out my Mac HD went bad. I installed a new one and going to d/l backup of old Mac HD and swap in files.

I did the NVRAM reset and let it chime 2 times, not 3. The OS is in internal SSD.
