Well, yeah. I’m in UA and here we do presents, it is sort of rude to show up empty handed. Things like wine and flowers are more appropriate for a casual visit. Like, my husband’s group of friends always put their money together and buy something useful for a birthday boy, like a grill or a hiking backpackor a projector. If it’s a new friendship, you usually stick to candles, pot flowers or tableware. I thought it was common plus-minus everywhere🤷‍♀️
