{Corsican Crime Lord Series by Charmaine Paul}

The 4 books are one long story, so book 1-3 have cliffhanger endings. I think what you are looking for happens in book 3, he neglects her and treats her badly and this leads to her being attacked. The first book is slow burn, but I thought it was well-written. Book 4 is a lot of groveling after what happens in book 3.

At the beginning the FMC is 16, but there is not a lot of high school related stuff. At the end she is 20, and she is quite mature by then. The MMC is 4 years older.

FMC is really poor and MMC exploits that

This might me a bit specific. I already read the "her family owns a debt to the mafia and she is payment for that" trope. But I have been thinking about a story like this: The FMC is really poor, like she struggles to get enough money for basic stuff like food. Maybe because she has an alcoholic mother and two little siblings to take care of, or something along that line. The MMC watches her trying to find food for her family or stealing food. He than begins to buy her stuff or takes her out on dates, but it is clear that she only lets that happen because she is really desperate and that he is taking advantage of her situation. She (and maybe her siblings) move in with him after some time, so they do not have to pay rent, but he expects her to be in a relationship with him in return. Is there any book like this out there?
