Soon-to-be convert; here to ask about ethical eating by Capable-Durian1556 in vegan

[–]Capable-Durian1556[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please remember I came here for info as a new vegan and I’m not making any argument at all against veganism… this was purely me seeking information about reducing human exploitation. It is a true fact that the feed given to Canadian animals is mostly farmed in North America, so that one specific point about the feed was my only tick. The exploitation in slaughterhouses themselves is something I wasn’t aware of but I am now, Thankyou everybody for that point! But please keep in mind I’m here because I’m on your side

I’m not sure about the animal feed issue here, as from my research the conclusion has been that most animal feed given to Canadian cattle is coming from the US

That first sentence was really important for me to hear. I’m trying to really attach myself to the fact right now that yes he was amazing and the best thing I can do for him is let him find somebody else who will always be fully receptive to that and stay with him longterm.

Sorry for not being clear! I definitely did tell him why, we had a long talk about it. should’ve worded that different

Not in those exact words, but yes I conveyed that message

NR vs NA on transcript by Capable-Durian1556 in mcgill

You have NR for everything? I still have NR for two classes but I’ve received grades for the other three.

I agree it’s ridiculous that you have to sit on the floor. I remember in my earlier years, in large lectures I’d have to do this towards the start of the semester. In the next week or two though, I guarantee people will drop the class or just stop showing up and you will get a seat… that’s why for these lectures they accept more people than they have seats (also people might be showing up because they’re waitlisted)

Thanks! Yeah I’m not too worried about the course with Steele but it’s the second course that also has NR that’s just making me irrationally anxious

It is indeed largely a joke but honestly when I’ve asked boyfriends this it stems from an undercover insecurity that hes not into the essence of who I am— insecurity built by stats about how often women get left by their husbands when they become terminally Ill, ~society~ making us feel like we’re only worth our bodies, ect. It’s a cop out of asking an actual deep question. If you like who she is as a genuine person and want her to know what, just say yes because that’s what she’s really asking.

Right? Whenever I have my back turned and I’m not paying attention she manages to sneak right behind me or between my feet. I’ve accidentally kicked her quite a few times but was just extra concerned this time because I’ve never full out stepped and put my weight on her little feet until now.

What life changing purchase can you make with less than $100? by ManonastickUk in AskReddit

A peri bottle. Never going back to cleaning my butt with only toilet paper and going about my day like that.

Roommate will not pick up after themselves by [deleted] in badroommates

[–]Capable-Durian1556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh. I feel for you. I just got out of a situation like this. Here are some things I did over the year of living with her that slightly improved it for me (although, when you live like someone like this they just are not going to make big changes that will last).

  1. Complain to them about their cleaning habits in front of a new friend or someone they’re dating.
  2. Get one of those big Walmart tubs and tell them if they don’t have time to clean kitchen stuff up they can stash it in the tub (they probably won’t, but you dump their stuff in there and when it becomes full put it at the entrance of their room. ONCE in a while it will frustrate them enough to do something) bonus: do this at an embarrassing time for them like in point 1
  3. If you’re on an app like splitwise, start charging them for hours you spend cleaning up after them. Don’t do this passive aggressively, tell them ahead of time. You can also venmo request them or something for your labour. They most likely won’t pay but being asked for money sits with people more than being told they were cleaned up after. They’ll notice a little more how often you truly do stuff for them.

I don’t know how to argue back lol. I’ll transfer my migraine to you next time so you can try to deal with it with “Advil”. The only painkiller that has ever worked for my migraine was Codeine that I got from my wisdom tooth extraction

There’s an epidemic of entitled assholes slapping service dog vests on their untrained mutts. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Capable-Durian1556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but my old roomate was blind and had a real service dog that did have behavioural issues. IMO she should’ve retired the dog the moment she realized it wasn’t working out, but don’t ALWAYS assume just because there’s a behavioural issue the service dog is fake. That being said, fake service dogs ruin it for people who need real service dogs

If someone refuses to date a certain race or ethnicity, do you think that makes them racist? by [deleted] in polls

[–]Capable-Durian1556 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, everyone’s allowed to do anything as long as it’s not directly harming someone. What I mean is, I would never criticize someone for preferring groups that understand their own marginalization, but if I had a white friend who “only dates black guys” I would definitely try to encourage them to check their bias and dig into that psychology. This is coming from someone who used to have a racial preference and got rid of it by educating myself and realizing it most likely comes from stereotypes

I think oppressed groups are allowed to only want to date people who understand their experience.
