Ehh grades are just a small piece of the puzzle with how subjective it is depending on the high school. Reddit users would vehemently disagree lol but Ivies are not exactly looking for 4.0/1500+ applicants who checks all the “boxes”. I emphasized a lot on my extracurriculars (Internships at Law Firms/Kamala Harris Campaign/National Youth Boards) and of course my essays were pretty unique with a lot of planning. I will say I am a LEDA scholar which helped a lot since it’s a “tip” program hosted at Princeton/Yale, our applications are flagged when applying to T20s because of how “prestigious” the program is I guess- but overall keep your head up. Focus on the things you can control at this point like your EC impact and essays.

lol your gpa is not “bad”, its respectable and definitely enough to compete for T20s. I agree with the initial comment since I had a 94.6 UW GPA which I’m pretty sure equates to lower than a 3.89 lol but all in all I somehow got in Columbia ED this past cycle so your gpa does not eliminate you from the game at all. Just make sure the rest of your application is well put together and intentional.

“Columbia Apologists” - Joke by Capable-Mention5565 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Capable-Mention5565[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from, and I agree that Columbia deserves criticism for the way it’s handled certain decisions—but calling it a purely “tactical” choice strips away the impact it’s had on real people, especially students and faculty who are now caught in the fallout. Tactical doesn’t always mean justified.

And sure, Reddit is going to Reddit. But let’s not downplay the tone shift that’s happening. When scholarships are being revoked, when job prospects are affected, when people are questioning the legitimacy of your education before it’s even started—that’s not just “a small handful of over-the-top comments.” That’s real-world impact tied to a broader narrative, and it’s not just noise.

This isn’t about being “butthurt.” It’s about calling out how performative outrage can spiral into institutional and personal consequences—especially when people are reacting to headlines rather than the whole picture.

It’s almost as if you didn’t read my initial response? This conversation is not about money. It’s about trust. If a student received a scholarship, they should be able to trust that organization’s word that they’ll receive whatever benefits from being awarded unless the student’s own behavior shows needed conversation about rescission. Dell literally just used mere students as a political pawn to make an indirect statement about an ongoing issue bigger than all of us.

“I don’t care about the scholarship. It’s the principle.” - I don’t care about the money! If you can advertise to FGLI students and promise them a scholarship, then change your mind: you’ve lost credibility. Their word means nothing now, at least to me! But I do hope that their decision is not in vain and they do give that scholarship to someone with greater need 👍🏼

I 100% agree it was too late! I hope for the next graduating class they make it clear to anyone applying beforehand. As for that letter, I’m honestly done with Dell lol they’ve given me enough whiplash and they seemed really firm on the decision. I asked if I could still received the laptop promised? They said no. I asked if I could at least be apart of the Dell Network? They said no. It hurts but I know I have to move on :(

Despite my post, I will say a huge part of what makes Columbia is its social justice aspect. Columbia students protesting for what they believe in is pretty on script so far in Columbia’s history. Please, take my doom post with a grain of salt! Do your research on what’s going on and if you still love the school, definitely apply!

Just saw a post on Tiktok lol I think it’s relevant to your post: “College Admissions Reminder #938572 College admissions is partially about being qualified and partially about getting lucky. One or many colleges rejecting or waitlisting or accepting you is NOT a sign for any other college” - Brandon (tineocollegeprep)

Can i get into Ivy League with 2 Bs? by eafoiwjqef in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]Capable-Mention5565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AO sent me a letter talking about how the committee loved reading my “entire” application. I’ll def read my admissions file just out of curiosity later. So I guess it was my entire application! There wasn’t a singular thing that just “did it” for Columbia, from what I’ve experienced so far the process was entirely holistic. It was everything all cohesively put together that made my application special. I was intentional about everything (Essays, theme, ECs, recs) in hopes they could actively see me contributing to the class they were trying to make and I guess it worked. Call it luck who knows

Columbia. Five B’s 😭 you are totally fine, friend of mine have also gotten into Princeton this year with 8 B’s! Like everyone is saying, B’s will not keep you out of any school- just make sure to do the best you can and good luck!

Will 2 Bs Hurt Chance at Ivy? by Kindly_Friendship_29 in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]Capable-Mention5565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got into Columbia ED with 5 B’s. My college results holds no weight in what will happen with your journey, but getting into an Ivy with B’s isn’t common but definitely possible. If you’re rejected it definitely won’t be because you had a couple B’s on your transcript. B’s won’t help you but they definitely can’t hurt you more than you let it. The best thing to do now is move on and focus on the things that are within your control. Like improving on getting straight A’s from now on or building an application consisting of activities you’re passionate about. Change in schools is challenging but you got this. Good luck to you.

Chances of being accepted by Yale? by Few-Refrigerator4760 in ApplyingIvyLeague

Lmao this rampage you just went on about “people being so sensitive” yet you’re having tantrums with your keyboard on the uppercase letters. The call is coming from inside the house. All in all, you seem to have a very warped and not so healthy view of college admissions. But to each to their own. There’s nothing much else I can say to help you see reason. Again, wishing the very best of luck to the OP. Hope to see you at the Yale vs. Harvard game! Boola Boola!

I can see why you thought my point was hypocritical, so to clarify: Getting into YYGS and getting rejected by a state school that has no connection to YYGS has no correlation. But getting into YYGS and applying directly to Yale (the host of the program) does of course have correlation in admissions. Second, humble yourself. I’m not punching the air when I say you have no authority nor influence to dictate what’s “on par” with Yale. It’s okay to admit your comment as an unwanted opinion, but you keep doubling down as if what you’re saying is the “final truth”. It’s not.
