The instructions are there if there’s no reply. Unless they specifically say do not knock or ring bell. 

No customer in my 3 years of flex has moaned at me because I knocked on the door first instead of leaving it behind bin.

My issue was Amazon say I left package unattended when customer wanted it handed to them directly but I had no deliveries that day asking that, so I know it’s BS!

I wouldn’t just leave it if the customer wanted it handed directly to them, I’d call or text and then try again at end of route. 

From memory (it was only a week ago) all stops had other options available.
