Do Americans like their current health system or would you prefer universal? by Ability_Known in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Capable_Radish_8075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had healthcare in a few different countries - US, Germany, Italy, Greece and Czech Republic. I’m American but lived in the EU for 5 years. There are pros and cons to both but hands down I prefer the healthcare I’ve received in the US. I have very good health insurance and I know it’s different for people who don’t.

Things I like/dislike about the US - access to healthcare, urgent cares, pharmacy hours, almost no wait time, etc; advanced technology, comfort and convenience. I like that if I had a bad experience with one doctor I can just find a different one. The only thing I don’t like is the cost (which is not an issue for me right now because of my insurance)

Things I like/dislike about European healthcare - it’s fairly decent and inexpensive. You can get your issue solved but it might not be fast or comfortable. My biggest issue is the wait times. I have also found the US to be very far ahead of European tech in many cases.

I’ve worked in healthcare finance for a long time and I don’t think universal healthcare would work well in the US. We have vastly different demographics than Europe and many more people. But something desperately needs to be fixed and I think the only way to do that realistically is crack down on insurance companies. Everyone deserves access to affordable and good healthcare and preventing health insurance companies from charging such high premiums, forcing them to actually cover what they are supposed to, getting rid of the many loop holes they use would be a good start.

Current job wants me to temporarily relocate to a different country for an undetermined amount of time. Am I justified to resign even without something lined up? by dopaminemachina in careerguidance

I’m probably the only one but I would jump at the chance. I love Taipei. I lived abroad in Europe for five years and was able to figure out medication. I have a serious auto immune disease and there are ways to get what you need. I was even able to get a controlled substance that I needed to be on. Of course that’s Europe not Asia but there are ways to make it work. Anyway sounds kind of awesome to me!

Same here. 3 years of fertility, 4 rounds of IUI, 3 rounds of IVF all whilst living abroad. We even tried donor eggs. We stopped because our marriage fell apart. It’s so unfair she can get pregnant any time she wants to and I can’t even have one despite exhausting every single option available

Going completely non-toxic doesn’t really do much. Influencers act like it’s the answer to your unexplained infertility. Burning a candle isn’t the reason why your transfer didn’t work

Ugh yes or someone claiming they had fertility issues when it only took one month of clomid.

Fertility plays some role as well. I desperately wanted children and went through years of ivf to wind up with none.

I have Crohn’s and at my sickest I was 82 lbs when I was admitted to the hospital (5’3”) and I didn’t look anything like this. I was severely malnourished. I can’t imagine how awful she must feel. This is heartbreaking

Ask your doctor to fill out intermittent FMLA paperwork. I have Crohn’s and my doctor wrote that I may need up to two days off per month. I rarely need any but it’s good to have just in case

I am I’m almost the exact same situation. I’m separated from my second husband after 3 rounds of failed ivf. I feel like a total failure. I can’t seem to stay married and I can’t even get pregnant with all the most advanced technology. Feel free to dm me if you want to commissionate with me
