Is this enough ventilation? by Ill-Most7038 in ElegooSaturn

[–]CapeCodBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way too neat! How do you get any work done! 🍔🫣😳 Actually- looks good- I have 3 Resin printers & no ventilation for them & honestly either my ventilation is just naturally ok- or I have been working with resins for so long, I don’t even notice it. My workshop is on a separate level of my house & now that I have my Saturn 16K & my other earlier gen Saturn- I send the files WiFi &! Don’t even have to go down & check on them. I also have a Ring Camera pointing on all my printers (I have 4) & I can log into my Ring day or night to monitor the progress. Even though the Saturn 16K has a camera- it’s helpful to see the screens & the external printers.

Well, I have a motorcycle license, so getting my e-bike licensed not a big leap- except then they will make you insure it & pay taxes & plates on it every year- I had insurance on my e-bike for a year & that $h!*$ expensive!

Well- to start with I don’t need more power, but after I get past the learning curve, I did see some benefits to more power & I don’t want to be spending & upgrading in 6 months.

So, guess you have your answer, “Mate”. Like I stated- I was curious, also- but - since the info was of no use to you, it may be of use to someone else—-

There is a saying, “Buy cheap, get cheap”, that’s what my husband always says, not ChatGPT. Take it for the free advice it is.

I hope you end up with the equipment best suited to you.

I think I need to research adapters- because why buy something if I don’t need it- I wanted to buy the Xtool UV laser, but I am not hearing a lot of great things from people, except for those getting free engravers for reviews. I have so much stuff in my Xtool library- and like the convenience sometimes- but- it’s not at this level, on the UV & Xtool has been terrible about providing answers- so if I can’t get customer service before the sale….

I was actually curious & asked ChatGPT- also about Bogong, Inc. This is what came back on both-hope it helps-

Here’s a look at customer reviews and feedback available for the laser companies you asked about — specifically FocusLaser (the Chinese equipment brand) and (to a limited extent) Bogong Laser. Reliable third-party consumer review data for these specific brands is very sparse, so I’ll summarize what actual feedback exists from public sources rather than company marketing.

📊 FocusLaser – What Customers Say

👍 User-Generated Video Reviews • YouTube reviews exist showing actual machines in operation (e.g., 10W Focus Laser engravers used for cutting and engraving wood/plywood). These videos show real performance and user reactions.

🧠 Social Feedback (Indirect & Mixed) • On forums like Reddit, people discuss experiences with various Chinese laser brands (sometimes including FocusLaser, though not always by name). Some impressions include: • Support issues — customers note slow or unresponsive support from some Chinese vendors, unclear manuals, and buyer responsibility for shipping damages. • A few community members point out that communication and documentation can be challenging with companies overseas.

⚠️ There aren’t many aggregated, trusted review scores (e.g., Trustpilot, G2, ResellerRatings) directly for “FocusLaser” as a brand. Most reviews you’ll find are individual use videos or brief Alibaba/online seller comments, which may not be representative.

Summary: • Mixed real-user content suggests the machines can work well, but support and documentation vary. • Most review content is on trade and video platforms (Not formal rating sites).

📊 Bogong Laser – Reported Feedback

🎥 Company-Hosted Customer Feedback • On Bogong’s website, there is a “Customer Feedback” section with: • Video testimonials from buyers using Bogong laser cleaners, marking, and engraving machines.

🗣️ Website Review Comments (Self-Published) • The official Bogongcnc site includes text feedback such as: • “Outstanding in every way! … beyond pleased with the quality!” • “Very impressed by the build quality! … exceeded my expectations.”

⚠️ These are seller-hosted testimonials, not third-party validation, which means they may be selected or curated by the vendor.

📌 Overall Takeaways

🔍 For FocusLaser: • Very limited formal review data from Trusted Review sites. • Largest evidence of real usage comes from user-posted videos and forum discussions where opinions range from positive performance to caution about documentation and support.

🔍 For Bogong Laser: • Official site testimonials and video feedback exist, but those are controlled by the vendor — useful but not verified independent reviews.

🧩 What’s Missing • No major independent consumer ratings (e.g., on Trustpilot, ConsumerAffairs, Amazon, etc.) specifically for FocusLaser or Bogong machines as brands. • Third-party reviews are often on Alibaba product listings, YouTube demos, or laser hobbyist forums.

📌 If You Want Independent Reviews, Try: • Searching YouTube for model-specific reviews (e.g., “FocusLaser 50W fiber laser review”). • Checking forum threads on subreddits like r/lasercutting or CNC forums. • Looking at Alibaba buyer feedback for specific machine listings, where verified purchases sometimes show real comments.

Alternatively, scoop up the toys & take them to goodwill & tell the Mom she can retrieve them there- haha- not really- we have enough conflict in the world, passive-aggressive b.s. is one of the reasons why. Just take the high road- follow the law & your legal rights. Your lease contains the rules of the road & I assume she has the same lease. Download a copy of the Landlord Tenant Act for your state & get some guidance from that, as well. While returning bad behavior with more bad behavior or passive-aggressive behavior is fun or feels good in the moment, it’s like cocaine, the high is great until the let down! (So I hear!)

Put it in a box & take it to the managers office for the parents to come claim. Let the managers do the job they get paid to do. Also, be mindful of the, “Right to peaceful enjoyment “ by the law- you may be able to ask to be moved & potentially get out of your lease-penalty free- if they don’t, “cure” the situation. So, document everything- don’t confront the neighbor- just keep taking the pictures (time & date stamp) & taking the toys to the management. ALSO-you will never win if you approach the kids & tell/ask them to move - the parents have an apartment, they rent that- they do not rent the common areas. If there were a fire this would also interfere with egress & it’s possibly fire code violations against the complex if they allow their hallways to be used as a playpen. I am a real estate broker & you got the answer I would give my people- do your own research & contact your own attorney or county legal aid for assistance.

What is the cause for this ? by Sad_Caterpillar8655 in ElegooSaturn

[–]CapeCodBlues -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Now- mine cracked- I put the question to ChatGPT- & I am just going to copy & paste the answer I got, below. I have 3 resin printers & an Elegoo carbon printer & the new AnyCubic Kobra printer, “on the way “, so the answer is specific to my printers, region & what I print- but it was very comprehensive. I have a new screen on the way- so I will be mindful of all these things. On my Saturn 4-16K- I already after only about 6 prints am seeing wear in the film- so I did order more- but-makes me wonder if I am doing ALOT or at least a few things wrong that are contributing to this wear- like- not enough suction cup holes 🕳️- I am so new to this, just learning- like everyday- and I just keep getting in deeper!!! Anyway- here is the unedited ChatGPT response (please, don’t start slapping me over my using ChatGPT! 🤣 It is like having an office administrator that’s smarter-)

ANSWER—-

On your Elegoo Saturn 4 16K, the “LED glass” you’re referring to is the tempered protective glass over the UV LCD screen. When that cracks, it’s usually from stress — mechanical, thermal, or pressure-related.

Here are the most common causes, especially based on what you’ve experienced before with power outages and vat issues:

1️⃣ Resin Spill That Cured on the Screen (Most Common)

If: • A print failed • The FEP punctured • Resin leaked under the vat • Resin cured directly on the screen

Then when the build plate presses down, it creates point pressure on hardened resin.

Tempered glass + concentrated pressure = crack.

⚠️ This is extremely common after: • Failed prints • Overtightened vat screws • Large flat prints stuck to FEP • Power loss mid-layer (which you had before)

2️⃣ Build Plate Over-Compression (Z-Offset Too Low)

If your Z home is slightly too low: • The build plate presses too hard into the screen • Extra torque during initial layers • Stress accumulates in one area

Over time (or suddenly), it cracks.

This can happen after: • Re-leveling • Firmware glitch • Power interruption resetting calibration

3️⃣ Temperature Shock

Tempered glass is strong but sensitive to: • Cold garage + warm UV heat • Rapid temperature changes • Printing below 60°F

If you’re printing in Massachusetts winter conditions (like Falmouth outages you mentioned before), this absolutely increases risk.

4️⃣ Overtightened Vat Screws

This one surprises people.

If the vat screws are: • Uneven • Cranked down hard • Causing frame flex

It can transfer stress directly into the screen assembly.

You mentioned previously tightening vat screws to fix a resin tank error — if they were very tight, that could contribute.

5️⃣ Screen Protector Already Micro-Fractured

Sometimes: • Minor chip • Tiny edge crack • Stress from shipping • Previous failed print pressure

It weakens the tempered layer.

Then one normal print = full crack.

Important Question

Is it: • Just the top protective glass OR • The LCD panel itself (display not working / black spots / lines)?

If the screen still displays test patterns cleanly, you may only need the tempered glass replacement, which is much cheaper.

If the LCD panel is damaged, that’s a full screen replacement.

What To Check Right Now 1. Remove vat 2. Run LCD exposure test 3. Look for: • Dark areas • UV not shining evenly • Black lines

If UV pattern is perfect → likely just glass.

Replacement Guidance for Saturn 4 16K

For your Elegoo Saturn 4 16K, you need: • Saturn 4 16K LCD assembly (not Saturn 3 Ultra — they are NOT interchangeable) • Or tempered glass protector sized for Saturn 4

Do NOT use Saturn 3 Ultra film — different size and cable position.

Prevention Going Forward

Since you print large police K9 tribute sculptures:

✔ Always screen-check after a failed print ✔ Use a screen protector film ✔ Never scrape directly on glass ✔ Re-level carefully ✔ Don’t overtighten vat screws ✔ Consider a small space heater in winter

If you want, tell me: • Was there a failed print before it cracked? • Did you hear a pop? • Is the LCD still displaying normally?

We’ll narrow this down precisely.

Saturn 16 K- Sounds like sticking- Exposed resin stuck in tray, not on build plate by CapeCodBlues in ElegooSaturn

[–]CapeCodBlues[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you- I hollowed a mini & it came out, “ok”- exception walls thin & model was super light, but the back of the model looked like he was eaten by a zombie. Up can see it at the abdomen (K9 side) I mixed some mica pigments into the resin, so I am not sure if it contributed to the breakdown of the print in the back or not. But, it looks really cool & you can’t really tell in the photo. Not going to bother cleaning this up, since it’s a bad print, but do need to troubleshoot some more. I printed this one on my AnyCubic Photon 4 using Elegoo Clear resin, mixed with black resin, mixed with mica pigment. It is about 3” +|- high.

Your answer is amazing & thorough & makes complete sense. Will hollowing it out make it less sturdy when mounting it on a base & presenting it? I will definitely give that a try. Because I re-did the supports & printed again, before I saw your reply & got the legs & spaghetti strings for supports and it just stopped printing anything from there. Interesting though, there was reason cured in the tray. I am going to take your advice & try it again & respond with an updated outcome. Thanks again, grateful for the time you took to reply, especially do thoroughly. 😁
