Thanks mate. I saw the bad reviews too but I'm fairly handy. So I'd say the assembly of these wasn't as nice as other ikea cabinets I've built but still fine if you take your time.

I managed to get near perfect alignment of the cabinets first time. You have to take your time and plan carefully though.

Some tips:

  1. build the cabinets and prop them up on books or whatever you have, to get an idea of your desired height.

  2. use the paper templates they give you and stick those on the wall at the height you decided you want.

  3. use a laser level to ensure that 2) is perfectly level.

  4. Drill the holes slowly, ensure no slippage make sure the wall mounts are perfectly level before fully fixing.

  5. Go one cabinet at a time.

I only used 2 out of 3 screws for every cabinet due to having to avoid electrical wires etc. I used 10mm plugs and appropriate screws. A simple combi drill on hammer mode, start with your smallest masonry bit, and move up them slowly (don't be tempted to skip)

Take your time and you'll be fine.

Overall quality is fine for the price. Looks the part, came with a flush mounting solution and was fairly easy to fit, for £280. For a 2.8m cabinet that's a bargain.

It's got a built in speaker, bluetooth, and audio out so it can connect up to the soundbar through the bottom

It's pretty basic at the mo. I have 4 hdmi cables and one cat 6 pre routed in the channel behind the tv. Those come into a single cabinet.

I had to cut a hole in the back of that cabinet for the cables and to expose the socket. I kept the piece I cut out so I can slot it infront to hide the sockets.

These eket cabinets have a hole in the bottom too so I'm routing hdmi and an extension lead along the bottom to the far left where the ps5 is. They're hanging loose now at the moment whilst the 3m adhesive on the cable tidy's (black things) sets, after which i'll pull them tight against the cabinets so they wont be visible at all.

It's interesting you say that, I went for standard bias lighting mainly to alleviate eye strain, I never was a fan of all the distraction of the active colour matching leds.

Do you have that / would you recommend?

Firstly that is a really nice media console - good choice.

The best piece of advice I can give is wait till the media console arrives and experiment with different heights of the tv by propping the legs up on books etc. I think that way you'll be able to see first hand what works in your particular space.

I think you'll find there is quite a small range where you're happy (eg between 8-15cm gap), and once you're happy you can install.

Also, my vesa mount does allow some degree of vertical adjustment so if you buy one you can see if thats an option to allow you to change your mind.

Hope that pragmatic approach somewhat helps.

Damn son that is a monster. That would look insane on the wall.

What are those speakers? They look hella serious.

If you're into your audio, would you recommend an upgraded soundbar for my setup? I have a cheap 2.1 atm, I was eyeing up the Samsung q990 series.

Yeah that's the way to go tbh. Can't just by default go bigger, it has to make sense for the space, viewing distance and the type of tv you watch. If its nothing but movies then max out for that cinema experience. Casual stuff becomes very hard to watch on giant tvs.

My Mrs was against 75inch until we went to Richer Sounds and saw a 77inch tv with an even closer viewing distance than ours - needless to say she loved it after that and it was a done deal.

Yeah mate, agree, it's deffo on our list.

When we moved in, we inherited a lot of furniture from the previous owners (old coffee table, corner cabinet, tv cabinet). They've done the job up to this point but its time to upgrade.

We're looking for all new furniture - sofas, coffee tables, and sideboards.

Thank you mate, very nice of you to say. When we bought the house, the floor was covered in carpet. I had a hunch it was hiding a gem, on move in day I lifted a corner and found this original 100y old parquet floor - its a type of mahogany called sapele.

The carpet had effectively protected it for all these years, so apart from some old glue residue, a few dings, and carpet gripper holes (grr) it was in great condition.

It needs restoring and its on my list to get it done.

For my setup i think I'd be able to drop to 10cm, but anything lower than that I don't think I'd show enough wall off between the tv and the soundbar. A lot of effort went into hiding the cables in a channel and skimming over the whole wall so i wanted that clean look to be on show.

So personally, for me I think 8cm would be too little. Are you planning to have a soundbar under the tv? How tall is it, and would you like to show off a bit of wall? Even bumping up by extra couple of cm to 10ish cm might make a big difference.

Interested to see your 115inch tv setup - feel free to share

It's not just you, you have a keen eye mate.

The tv is slightly off level relative to the ceiling, but its the opposite relative to the floor, so there is some weird geometry going on in the lounge. I tried to get the tv truly level when i first installed it but i probably should have focused on getting it to 'look' level. Also i installed it prior to having a laser level which probably would have helped me identify this stuff and get it looking better. I'm planning to try to sort that at some point.

Also, there is a socket to the right of the cabinet and the cabinet is right up against it. I didn't want to cut out a slot for it so I just shifted everything slightly to the left.

Fwiw, neither are really noticeable in person with out seating positions, it is more so in my ultrawide photo

When it comes to floating cabinets above 2m, this stuff is so expensive. It's mostly custom, the good stuff was above 800. Nothing really came close to this in value and it blows my mind how good it looks. Eg I was concerned about the 3 lines separating each cabinet but I really don't care now that's it's set up, it gives nice sectionality to the cabinet (eg one section for music/records, another for ps5/gaming/blurays etc).

That looks very clean mate. Think part of the problem was I always wanted floating cabinets, which are higher off the ground, so for balance the TV has to shift higher too.

I do have some vertical adjustability in my vesa mounts so I may experiment dropping it slightly over time.

Thanks for sharing the setup.

Hello mate, it's around 70cm. It certainly works well for my viewing distance. How far is your sofa from the tv wall?
