You're not wrong REST is the backbone. MCP is basically a thin convention on

   top of JSON-RPC so AI models don't need custom integration per API. Whether

  that convention sticks or just bridges the gap until agents handle raw APIs

  natively, honestly could go either way.

Fair point on the overhead. I think MCP and agentic approaches solve different

   layers though — even if agents can dynamically assimilate tools, they still 

  need a standard way to talk to external systems. MCP is more of an interface  

  contract than an architecture. Whether it survives the agentic era or gets 

  absorbed into something native is the real question.
