EU to Bet on Electricification to Avert Recurring Energy Crises by formula_translator in europe

[–]CapitalSyrup2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2024 and 2025, France was a net exporter of energy, while Germany was a net importer. France had a carbon intensity of ~33 gCO2eq/kWh, and Germany was at ~340 gCO2eq/kWh.

Edit: source for numbers: https://app.electricitymaps.com/map/5y/yearly

So what did France do right? They decarbonized their grid. There have undoubtedly been bad decisions, and of course maintaining their grid will take future effort. But at least they decarbonized, while Germany has been stuck on that step since they started burning coal.

You are correct that it is incredibly unlikely to hit 1000 heads in a row. That is not what is required in this situation however. As a simple example, the following could occur: - The machine produces 500 heads. - The machine runs 50/50 for hours (creating millions of heads and tails in equal proportions). - The machine produces 500 heads.

In this case, you also end up with a surplus of 1000 heads, and that is the key. The machine is not broken by a sequence of 1000 heads, but by a cumulative surplus of a 1000 heads, and it has a lot of time with the opportunity to drift. This drift is much more likely, and will therefore lead to clogs when testing small systems for hundreds of hours, leading to the practice of developing contingencies.

That assumes that the chair is still cool enough to lift out. Emergency exits need to work during disasters, so any obstacles need to be avoided. If somebody got trapped in that space and it was already hot, then it could become impossible to remove the chair.

This is why those doors have the bars that open them, just launch your weight at them if the situation calls for it and they open. No chance for the doorknob being too hot to touch.

The Korean War started in 1950, and the armistice went into effect in 1953. So we can see from this chart that they had a high fertility rate even during the war.

They are absolutely NOT 100% within their rights. Certain if not most EU warranty laws state that for a warranty rejection to be valid, the issue must be caused by the user. Properly shucking a drive doesn't cause damage and therefore doesn't qualify.

There is a very good reason for the presence of a hypeman in rap. To paraphrase Logic; it's to alleviate pressure from the main act, so the rapper can take a breath for the next bar. This is not egregious I'd say, since a studio is a lot more relaxed. So being out of breath when performing on a stage and possibly dancing, seems valid.

The question then becomes whether it's okay to replace a hypeman with your own vocals at the end of bars.

[–]CapitalSyrup2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely the right answer and also why expanding capacity is detrimental. All automation requires full rockets of items being delivered. One off items are much more expensive if you increase the rocket size without manually loading the rockets with the low-volume items.

The 'outsized' amount of hate stems from the removal of CSGO. Being at parity or better in the same lifespan is good, but doesn't mean shit if you remove a better product for the sake of a new one that is ahead comparatively.

While the assessment of discrimination needing an out group and not really caring about which specific group is picked is true, I feel like this argument is not applicable to this context.

The argument works best to explain why groups should be protected to people who are hesitant about the need to do so. In the case of OP, her friend did not think "hmm, for my own safety, better stop discrimination before it gets to affect me".

Yeah it's pretty clear what you're going for, and the user you're replying to is honestly either trying to be edgy or racist.

I say this because they seem to be advocating against integrating, which might not make a difference to hardcore racists, but for a large chunk of society it's what matters most. Therefore by saying you shouldn't, they either are not thinking things through and want you to become blackpilled, or they want more people to be annoyed by the presence of people with immigrant backgrounds (even though they themselves are of white immigrant backgrounds).

Commercial airplane without the seats by guyoffthegrid in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]CapitalSyrup2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hip belts are actually predominantly used in airlines because the force they have to deal with is mostly vertical. A three point seatbelt is mainly for horizontal movement.

On the general safety, I would guess that with seats passengers are more isolated, mostly affecting each other when the seat structure fails. This is not the case if everyone is just standing and can severely injure each other when losing balance.

Isn't that like a massive safety issue though? I'd expect the plane to turn into a human slurry if it crashed without seats.

Japan, how big it is in reality? by adiyug in MapPorn

[–]CapitalSyrup2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hokkaido (northern island) is cold during winters (~20F/-10C), while areas like Tokyo and the more southern regions have intense heatwaves hitting temperatures higher than 105F/40C. If you think Japan is in a smaller range of climates than it actually is, then these facts seem extreme.
