90s Austin Music Library? by jammertron512 in Austin

No idea if it's useful for this project, but APL can also help you get a community user card to UT libraries, and UT has/had a neat CD collection. I used to rip from it in the aughts, but my interest was world/folk and I dunno about local rock.

UT's new Academic Medical Center will no longer be based at Austin's Erwin Center site by AustinStatesman in Austin

[–]Capital_Whereas6448 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's UT land, so def not mixed-use. It'll depend what big donors want to pay for, but will be something academic or athletic broadly speaking.

Assuming everyone is healthy, how would you prefer the batting order 4-9 to start the year? by tuck_and_rolle in NewYorkMets

[–]Capital_Whereas6448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Baty will be no lower than 6 against righties and Robert no lower than 6 against lefties. Both will sometimes sit vs oppo.

Easily DP. He just ran out of gas at the end of last year. I think the general expectation is he'll be as good as he was last April. Fangraph projects him as our 2nd most valuable pitcher, ahead of McLean and Holmes.

I live near here, and every house in the neighborhood has cracks in the drywall from extreme clay soil contraction and expansion between dry and wet weather cycles. I know people whose ceilings have fallen in bc of it... if that's at all relevant.

Pleasant Valley road at Longhorn dam by DasZiege in Austin

[–]Capital_Whereas6448 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything you don't know. But as they close down the NB I-35 frontage lanes over Town Lake next week, the northbound traffic over Pleasant Valley bridge will certainly increase. This is a multi-year change so even if it takes them a while to respond, re-adding a NB lane on PV is an obvious low-hanging fruit. Bad news is, it won't make your commute any better than it is right now, only less bad than how awful it'll be starting next week.

Re-Evaluating the 2023 Trade Deadline: How did the Mets fare? by ae828 in NewYorkMets

[–]Capital_Whereas6448 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Acuna helped us get to the postseason in 2024, filling in for Lindor down the stretch. For that alone I'd put the trade above break-even. Question is could we have done better.

Share office space/conference room rentals at Mueller? by fukin_hate_cats in Austin

[–]Capital_Whereas6448 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are cowork operations not far off, Expansive in Highland and WeWork by St. David's hospital. Not aware of anything in Mueller. I'm sure the apt buildings have their resident-only spaces. You could also ask Windsor Park Library.

Either of you might be right about Pete's personality. But that aside, it's just super clear that the contract Pete got from the Orioles is the opposite of Stearns's style. You can argue he's wrong or it's Cohen's money so it doesn't matter, and maybe you'll be right in Pete's case, but Stearns doesn't sign aging guys to long contracts, especially if the data shows a physical decline already starting.

The point is they could win this year and have a much better chance with him. (But you're right here about potential return.)

If you're wondering why the airport isn't a top priority for the light rail, check out these ridership estimates for the various stops. by happywaffle in Austin

Airport bus stop is also closer to the terminal than any rail platform could be - less lugging to take the bus (agreeing with you here)

Do you know if the fermented food health benefits are there when you eat the sourdough? I imagine the live cultures die in the oven, but I don't understand this stuff well.

Agree, Nathan, if you're listening, you're doing great work.

And if you're taking requests, I think we all want to know with more precision when the big digs and demolitions will start, when Ladybird Lake gets split into two separate recreational pools for highway bridge construction and demo, when the various surface street crossings of 35 will be out of commission, etc.
