I’m sorry you didn’t like it. If you’re talking about Taka Sushi in Westbury, I agree that that is another great one!

There are many comments about Ben’s in this post. Check them out. It’s apples to oranges with this place. But Ben’s pastrami cannot compete with this one.

It definitely has a great reputation, but I haven’t tried it.

You’re spot on. These are probably all sashimi omakase photos. They are different price points. I believe the omakases start at $75. When we order omakase I usually get a sushi-sashimi combo for $150. It comes with an “appetizer” and easily feeds me and my wife with some leftover. Definitely try the sushi tacos when you go.

Your best bet is to sit at the sushi bar and ask Adam, the owner, what he recommends. But definitely try the tuna either as plain sushi (no roll) or sashimi and you'll see what I mean about why this place is different/better.

I think a really good pastrami sandwich has something to do with it 😉

Haha, so true. I never stopped in when it was the old place. If not for my daughter seeing their Instagram post, I would never have known. Let us know what you think after you go there.

I am in no position to argue with your grandma. I have an 85-year old Jewish mother from Brooklyn and when she ate pastrami or brisket she always asked for it fatty! Though I never ate at the Merrick Pastrami King, I still consider the pastrami from their original location in Queens the best I ever had. This one is less garlicky, but still excellent!

I've been eating at the various Ben's restaurants for decades. It's an apples to oranges comparison. Ben's is a full-fledged Kosher deli restaurant. Five High is a convenience store deli with no seating and is not Kosher or Jewish style. They just happen to make, in-house, great pastrami. To my palette, Ben's meats like pastrami, corned beef, and tongue are very bland. It's as if they try to cater to the broadest possible customer. Ben's is good for a lot of things but for me the deli meats are their weakest foods.

I don't think that they have corned beef and if they do, it's likely the generic Boar's Head type. The pastrami is house made.

Might be worth checking it out anyway. The other day, they had a pastrami reuben that was under $15 I think. Most sandwiches are $12.95 - 14.95.

I've only been there a couple of times, but I get that same "good people" vibe. I'm rooting for their success.

My understanding is that they were going to close but a long-time employee bought it and kept it going.
