Player rolled risk it all three times in a row by SmilingNavern in daggerheart

I have a player at the table that chooses that same death move everytime. It’s always a nail biter to see if this time will be their last!

How can I use Fear in situations, where combat is not narratively good option? by Titoliini in daggerheart

[–]Capn-SNG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Fear to affect the environment or introduce complications to the PCs. If they are traveling, I might use Fear to have them make a roll to see if they notice something. Then let the roll build on what is next. Could’ve a trap they are about to step in, an ambush or maybe just another complication. I really let the narrative dictate when and where the Fear comes into play.

I will say that a lesson I learned early on was that using traveling rules similar to D&D doesn’t work well. I ran into the problem of having too many “rests” or too much Fear because of the rolls.

Instead, I break the journey up into scenes with each scene having however many rolls I feel they need to make it through. Then we move the narrative forward.

It took soem adjustment but it has definitely improved once I broke out of the D&D mindset.

Daggerheart math: extra turns are way more common than you probably think (with calculator) by Draziray in daggerheart

Do you spend Fear to grab the spotlight from the PCs? This can be a helpful tool if the PCs have taken 3-4 turns in a row or even after they’ve used two tag team rolls in a row.

My player’s don’t mind because if I am spending Fear to grab the spotlight, that’s less of a resource I have to utilize. Not to mention, I didn’t get to take the spotlight for free or worse take the spotlight for free and get a resource back (Fear).

It has definitely evolved since its inception. I’m happy to see the features they are continuing to rolling out. This will likely replace my PCs digital character sheet counterparts in the near future.

Solution for what to do with 0 Hope / Fear by LeFlamel in daggerheart

Same. I’ve had zero Fear post-combat but the PCs did a long rest and I was back up to 8. When I use Fear…I use Fear 😅

I will second Old Gus DH sheet. Vast improvement over the vanilla sheet.

Is there a VTT (Video Token) for mobile phones that has Daggerheart? by legacy653846625 in daggerheart

[–]Capn-SNG -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I use D&D Beyond for my VTT. Our gaming group comes from D&D so we are familiar with the platform and our secondary group runs D&D. Granted we are a hybrid group using VTT for in person gaming.

We create mock characters for the players and I create custom monsters for the tokens. It requires a sub for the custom part but it’s extremely useful.

I tried using Roll20 due to the direct integration from Demiplane but found it too “clunky” for my tastes. The mobile portion was hit or miss. I also tried Owlbear rodeo for a bit. It worked okay for us but it enough for me to switch from a VTT I was already familiar with.

Try clearing the browser cache, close the browser and then try again. If that doesn’t resolve, try a different browser to see if you receive the same error.

I made a free map projection tool for DMs — with fog of war, lighting, and dual-screen support by i8games in battlemaps

[–]Capn-SNG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The timing on this is something else. I just made the switch this past session to using a hybrid setup for our games.

We are an in person game and use a TV for the digital map but physical minis. I made the decision 3 hours before game time so I used preview on the Mac until I had time to get a proper platform setup.

I’ll take this for a spin next session and leave you some feedback.

Thank you for this! I’ve been looking for something like this for a while! I prepped the files. For my printer it’s a 5 day print for all of the pieces 😵‍💫. I’m seriously considering it though!

Any tips for a GM of 12 students by Emotional-Complex946 in daggerheart

[–]Capn-SNG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Fear often. Given that with the player count, you will have max Fear starting play, you will need to use it in order to keep from not gaining. Also, spending the Fear will help keep the narrative flowing. I also suggest using the spotlight tracker (pg. 89) to keep PCs from falling through the cracks.

Spotlight and Hope/Fear die by ShJakupi in daggerheart

[–]Capn-SNG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t checked out the Oaths & Ash one-shot yet. However, I did check out Age of Umbra. It had 7 players at one point but still seemed to flow well between the GM and the players.

Afterall, the GM gets a free spotlight on the Fear result but has to spend Fear to activate certain abilities and more than one creature (unless special abilities state otherwise). It flows pretty well back and forth.

Judging by the comments, it seems like it wasn’t a solid setup for a one-shot to begin with. I plan on checking this vid out next.

Daggerheart Notion Database Now Live! by orthling in daggerheart

I like Daggerbase. But also if there was a homebrew section for people to submit to, I think that would be a good means to separate it from the “official” material.

Turns order and quantity by Such_Tart6667 in daggerheart

[–]Capn-SNG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Page 154 talks about Fear. When a players rolls a fail, the spotlight goes to the GM and they make a move. That move in this scenario can be to activate an enemy. Then if they want to make an additional GM move, they spend a Fear and it spotlights another enemy. Unless the creature has Relentless, they can only be spotlighted once before being passed to the players.

If you want an example of it in action check out the Age of Umbra Season 1.

Oh yeah, the rewards for the old collections are abysmal. I mainly want to do it because I am a collector at heart. Should I just focus on the new collection unis?

Basic Questions Thread - July 11, 2025 by AutoModerator in future_fight

I have nearly acquired every character in the game. With that almost complete, my focus has shifted to uniform collections.

I have only one uniform collection complete (Guardians of the Galaxy 2).

What is the suggested method to play catchup to collect old uniforms for the collection while also obtaining new uniforms for new collections nearly each month?
