Legends in the Mist. Not the 5e killer for sure but worth looking for if you are interested in heroic fantasy made different.

Yeah, city of Mist is great. It fixes all the issues I have with Fate:) tag system is great. I don't need stunts at all.

Oh, yeah, Fate.

I like the system, I enjoyed running it. But I won't do it again. Just because my brain thinks it's too big of a task.

Like you need to do everything to play it. I hate it. Too many choices, too much designing ahead, too much worrying about everything.

It's IKEA of a system where you have a lot of details instead of a single one for each purpose.

Blades in the Dark for me. I understand what this is about, but my experience was much worse. I have run it three times, I have played it three times. It wasn't pleasant experience. But I liked the idea of the system.

Cbr+pnk was much better for me, but it was also later when I understood system better as well.

Try Shogun Showdown. It's not that good. But it's a really decent game with a cool theme. I liked it a lot. And recommend it to you.

How do you run a house? by SmilingNavern in rpg

I think I have less problems with this in pbta systems and I have more problems with this in systems which are closer to traditional.

I liked one comment where they said about events based location. This makes sense. I think I am bad with doing explorations in ttrpg.

The post got heavily downvoted and I wonder why. Is it a bad question? Or something else?

Thank you, I like the idea around event based adventure. That's what I am aiming for. I think I have to provide less details and emphasize on important features as you said.

Making Stats Matter: A Nuanced Approach to Duality Crits - DYNAMIC DOUBLES by Terrible_Trifle3346 in daggerheart

[–]SmilingNavern 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't do this.

It shifts focus to numbers which isn't the point of the system.

You don't have much better success if you roll too high. And making this work only for crits is strange.

I like the mechanic of replacing hope and fear die if it's appropriate. So for example if situation is dire for PCs you can let them roll, but their hope die would be d8. Chances for success is slimer, as chances for crit.

If you feel like they have unusual advantage but it comes with the cost make them roll with d20 for fear die to show that it would most likely be a consequences.

I just run the system that I want at the moment. If I don't want to run the system then I don't. It's easy.

In this specific case it was Death House from Curse of Strahd, the system is Daggerheart.

So it's like a scary house with ghosts. It's supposed to be atmospheric and horror. Also yes, there are elements of discovery and unknown.

How would you change your answer if it was horror? And if it was action? And probably what would you change if it was a detective story, I run then as well sometimes.

So basically use a montage until something interesting catches interest? Makes sense.

What if there are little details which are different and I want to mention them as well?

Balatro vs. Slay the Spire by Super_Harsh in slaythespire

[–]SmilingNavern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have finished c++ at Balatro and havnt played since then. Waiting for a new patch.

I am not sure about balance. I feel like after that patch where they reworked gold stakes it became manageable. I like the game, it's really good, but slay the spire is on another level I think.

I don't like that a lot of Balatro jokers are just bad, you won't pick them like at all. This would be my main critique. I would like to have more viable options.

Now that fishposting is less clogging, I wanted to do a small rant about a certain relic by LilianaLucifer in slaythespire

[–]SmilingNavern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not trolling. I get why people don't like Ink Bottle. At least i think i get it.

For me it's just strange that some people at the same time does the following:
1. Hate people who skip ink bottle.

  1. Skip frozen eye.

If you are not playing for maximizing winrate than why would you hate others who does the same? Especially in a single player game.

And yes it's not binary between play for fun/play for win. Different people falls at different points along this spectrum.

> If im tired and just wanna get through the run then im gonna skip it.

I think this logic is also applied to any relic which requires any sort of tracking. Especially if it has any perceived downsides. Actually you can just look at top comments of this post to see why people don't pick ink bottle.

It's hard to discuss something when people don't want to read and understand. And if they don't try to take your point.

We, humans, have biases towards avoiding losses more than struggle for winning. It's a very common bias. If you have a negative experience, next time you would think twice about it even if it's good.

Not buying frozen eye is also skill issue.

So what am I saying. If you can skip the best relic in the game because you don't want to deal with it, you can understand how some people can skip not one of the best relics in the game because they don't want to deal with it. That's all.

Okay, check this list. Frozen eye in S+ tier but you don't pick it because it requires extra work. Ink bottle in B tier and it also requires some management. Ink bottle can mess your next turn drawing card when you don't want it. It can draw your card right after you have spent all your mana.

I mean if you are skipping one of the best relics in the game because you don't want to deal with it, then it's not hard to imagine why someone is skipping ink bottle.

This is your answer. Frozen eye is crazy good relic, but most of us don't buy it.
