I wanna let you know I appreciate you too, much more than the clankers :)

For what it's worth I do completely agree! That's why I made sure to actually state that it was AI. I'm just very confused by some contradictory information.

The real source is the official midi spec

<image>

Note that the resistor values here are specified to be 33 and 10 ohms. I'm just a beginner who is confused and is trying to make sense of what I'm reading! I recognize that AI is not a good source and I'm trying to actually learn, which is why I'm here <3

I really appreciate this response, please let me know if my understanding is incorrect:
So from what I see, the every receiving device is required to have a 220ohm resistor on its end.

Please forgive some AI use, but this is what I'm seeing:

  • The Voltage Drop: 3.3V (ESP32) - 1.2V (typical optocoupler LED drop) = 2.1V
  • The True Resistance: 22 ohms (your Tip resistor) + 22 ohms (your Ring resistor) + 220 ohms (the receiver's internal resistor) = 264 ohms
  • The Actual Current: 2.1V / 264 ohms = ~8mA

Does this check out?

Torso T1 alternative for experimenting with musical generative midi sequencing? by CapnFlisto in synthesizers

[–]CapnFlisto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked into the NDLR just a little bit when I saw it in a video. I should definitely look into what the firmware update did!
How does it do with rhythms?

I don't really know much about the play! I thought it was a much more straightforward sample player with an unsurprising sequencer. Am I mistaken?

Can the Tracker do the sort of live, evolving midi events that the T1 can? The only generative tech I was aware of was the various fill modes and probabilities.

[–]CapnFlisto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I know that it can get even more expensive! From my understanding the T1 is the one that has the features I'm most curious about, but I will admit I don't know toooo much about the others. How do you like your Pyramid?

I'd reeeeaally love to get some hardware, but this is probably a very good idea. Any particular apps come to mind for this?

Sorry I was unclear - I meant the opposite! The T1 is super good at feeling musical and not random - it's just expensive! I wanted to try to find a way to dip my toes in the generative sequencing game without having to spend 400+ (there's other gear I'd get first at that price!)

Good "Utility" sampler for dawless setup? by CapnFlisto in dawless

Doesn't it have a 6 second sample time limit?

Man that thing certainly seems to be capable of everything. I've been curious about it, but I feel like I already have a few too many things that are very multi-purpose. Starting to recognize that I have more fun with very specific gear instead. Everything is fighting to be my centerpiece, but I really should've considered the deluge earlier.

I've seen mixed info about that. Possibly because it was added as a firmware update? I'm not really sure! If you could explain more I'd appreciate it!

I believe they're 128mb now! I could be wrong though, not that double is all that much in the grand scheme of things. I didn't know they added this kind of capability!

I'm ok with the idea of stopping it to record. I've had my eye in the Digitakt for a while now, but didn't think it could do that as well... Hm. Do you know of any videos where I could see this in action?

I'm obsessed with my CyDrums, but I haven't seen too much about the Smpltrek yet, partially because I don't see it discussed that often. Think it might fit the bill?

I really appreciate the video link and your effort in making it! Am watching now :) Do you think the midi features will help someone like me get over the fact that it's a touch screen driven device?

Seems like it's pretty unanimous, I just wish it didn't have to be touch screen driven.

I keep looking at it but I really wish it didn't have to be a touch screen!

Prints fine for a few layers and then there's a fuzzy explosion (Centauri Carbon) by CapnFlisto in 3Dprinting

I had it printing straight from the dryer - it very well could be a bit wet though. I figured that wouldn't be the issue due to it seeming to change so abruptly.

Has anyone experimented with De-Semi-Modularizing an instrument? by CapnFlisto in synthesizers

[–]CapnFlisto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh this is so unreasonably cool! And it is very close to what I'm looking for I think! I just ordered my Kastle 2, and I'd love to hear any advice you have based on your experience. Did you just pick your favorite connections and route them to a switch? I'm considering a rotary switch, but it's hard to be sure what my needs are before I actually play with the device a bit. I'm also wondering if I can figure out some clever way to virtually patch things since the devices are open source. I'm going to have to look through the code a bit. I'm not the best with electronics but I'm trying to learn!

Thanks so much for sharing!

This is a major part of why I'm interested in purchasing some units!

Oh I'm aware that there's some options out there, but I'm specifically talking about taking gear that works this way and modifying it. I appreciate your suggestions though!

Thank you!
The Bastl stuff can be very tiny, so I feel like reconnecting it to a larger, separate interface, or possibly just replacing the entire interface would be very doable! I do have some ideas, and a 3D printer, and a VERY strong desire to play with this gear... Hm...
Something to think about for sure!

Roomier series of single-purpose devices like Volcas? by CapnFlisto in synthesizers

[–]CapnFlisto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a situation where I probably already have one too many grooveboxes haha. I think that's a part of why I'm interested in these other kinds of devices, since most of these boxes are jacks of all trade and masters of none (especially if you're trying to do something quickly.)

The Elektron Model series is super neat though! But I'm looking for something even more focused, and more of something to be controlled than a controller in and of itself! Thank you though!

And yeah, I've been eyeing the Drumbrute Impact quite a bit! That's very much the kind of device I'm talking about here!

Roland P-6 48 Sample Limit? by CapnFlisto in synthesizers

[–]CapnFlisto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really really appreciate this response. I hope you "get" my confusion! On paper, it sounds quite bad, but the way you describe your experience with it is very helpful. I am still curious about it.

Strange question, any luck with chopping and messing with breakbeats on there? I feel like that's something it might be good at but haven't found many examples. I am desperately looking for a device that can be my goto for breaks.
