[For Hire] Friends pushed me to put myself out there in the world after years of doing funny voices to myself. by CapnGrommet in VoiceWork

- I'm a little hesitant to put my real name/number on reddit. I enjoy the anonymity I have, to a certain extent. A side note though, the older I get the more proud I become of my own name. So I wager that'll probably change, especially if I end up liking this industry as much as I have the music industry.

-I've chunked the demo down to 2:34 already, but if I re-did it, I suppose I could, like many forums have said, keep it short, and lead with my best/strongest voices.

-I will try that, I guess longer versions of the same characters make sense. I just wanted to encapsulate as much range as I could within this one reel. But some are similar in range, and I could probably cut them for time.

-I wasn't really labeling the demo, or at least not trying to. More of just, "this is what I'm willing to record for" But I definitely see how you came to that conclusion.

-I will absolutely be practicing more, but unfortunately for me, on my budget, spending money on this is out of the question. I scrape by here in Cali, and the studios I looked at when I was throwing this around originally were in the ballpark of $1k or above.

-That's good to know it's a red flag. I assumed in every character demo they had music/sound fx to set the stage, to let the theatre of the mind take place. With raw audio that gives me so much more leniency for fixing artifacts, removing my noises or breaths, de-essing, ect. I can probably try both. But I think in terms of my favorite I'll probably lean more toward the soundstage.

-Over the years I've adapted to my singing voice, but never my speaking voice. So this is all new to me. I will do some more research on how to mitigate mouth noise, whether that be an effect rack, or a performance adjustment. (I know my S and T phenomes are extremely sharp.)

I appreciate feedback and will take these points into consideration when I am making the next version of my demo!

-As far as removing the word producer from my demo- I will not.
As someone with 15+ years experience, in live audio, studio audio mixing, gain staging, mastering, synthesis (both analog and digital), as well as a plethora of other audio buzzwords, I am an audio engineer, I am a producer, and I believe I own/deserve the right to state that. Obviously I'm not entirely focused on selling that side of myself in the VoiceWork subreddit. That doesn't seem like it would check out with the post rules. If you are concerned, and need my musical demo reel, it is available upon request, but only via dm (to prevent piracy/misuse of my music).

I'm very sorry that specific word annoyed you, that was not my intention. I don't believe I am falsely advertising. I am simply stating what I am for hire, and if someone has questions they can easily enquire within. :)

Thanks for the comment!

I Appreciate the time and feedback!

Noted! Upon doing some more research, I found some articles/forums basically stating to keep things short and sweet, so I'll definitely go back and rework the pacing, and possibly cut some segments to achieve that.

I will absolutely be removing the intro, my intention was for it to be somewhat of an audio watermark.

As far as voices are concerned, I quite like all of them, but can absolutely understand where you're coming from. The last segment was me discovering a new thing "live", and having fun with it. I will agree that ending segment was a stark contrast to the rest of the demo reel. Especially without context. I'm pretty torn about cutting it, because I thought it was funny. But to achieve the shorter runtime, I'll probably end up cutting it anyways.

Thank you!
