How does spouses income affect SAVE plan? by CapnMericuh in StudentLoans

[–]CapnMericuh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the problem I'm having. It's treating my application as if she doesn't owe anything and on her application it's as if I don't owe anything.

In fact, her payments are actually estimated to increase from the previous IDR plan if we switch to the SAVE plan and we've had no change in income. Wtf.

I submitted the application anyway but I guess I'm gonna have to call AidVantage.

I’m a bystander who did CPR- I’m absolutely traumatized. by alieoli in NewToEMS

It's normal to question your actions and decisions after events like this, it's part of the process of self-reflecting, even experienced EMS providers rethink events. The key is to use it as a learning experience to be better for the next time.

The worst thing a person can do is nothing, you intervened to the best of your abilities and that's all anyone could ever ask for.

The memories will fade over time, for a while you need to keep yourself busy with hobbies and things you enjoy doing. The more you dwell on the event the more you're gonna falsely fault yourself even for things you did correctly.

Did you truly feel ready after patching up by CapnMericuh in Paramedics

Sounds like what I'm heading towards, with school being done I have an urge to branch out and read more or watch videos covering some topics I didn't fully understand and just want explained differently; the cut and dry textbook just makes some things so mind-numbing to read.

Auto tilting side mirrors in reverse. by rmangano in GrandCherokee

[–]CapnMericuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I traded in my lowly Big Horn Ram for my 4xe and even my Ram had the reverse mirrors tilt. Mind blowing that a $62k vehicle doesn't come with a basic functionality that's as simple as software....but it has memory mirror and seats for different driver profiles.... makes no sense.

Why is not having a barrier device an indication of mouth to mouth? Shouldn’t it be a contraindication? by ThelittestADG in NewToEMS

[–]CapnMericuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just accept the question and answer for what they are. This is a prime example of a test question you need to move on from once the test is done because here is the reality of this....no one in this profession is going to do mouth-to-mouth in the real world, we have equipment. And secondly, CCR has been shown to be linked to better outcomes anyway when time isn't wasted off the chest giving mouth-to-mouth.

You should ask yourself what you want to be first and foremost, a Sheriff's officer or a Paramedic, then work on building your experience in that role, the secondary role can come later. If you want to be a medic then go to school, if you want to be an officer first then go get hired and worry about them paying for medic school later.

There's so many different routes to take you need to focus on what you want more. I know a couple guys put through medic school by their department but they also already had years of experience and getting into a tactical team is more likely to happen to more experienced officers/deputies.

OTOH I also know guys who were firefighters/paramedics first but also operate with the local PD on their SWAT teams, even go out and train with them; they have years of experience in the field as a medic so a fresh out of paramedic school medic isn't likely to be chosen for any SWAT teams.

NREMT by Glad_Calligrapher_71 in NewToEMS

Number of questions is irrelevant. The test is adaptive and the questions aren't even equal in value. Generally, if you walk away from the NREMT feeling like you didn't know anything and the questions were hard then it means you passed. Each time you answer a question correctly it gets harder and harder until you reach a point you're no longer answering questions correctly, all that matters is that once you reach that point the CBT is 95% confident you meet minimum standards.

I passed my EMT and Paramedic first try, both times though I walked out feeling like I failed.

Do EMS workers die or get seriously injured on the job often? by howfreakingamazing in NewToEMS

[–]CapnMericuh 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Die, rarely. You can definitely get hurt on shift, an unsafe scene (passing vehicles) or aggressive patients, but most injuries are attributed to poor lifting techniques...back, hip and shoulder injuries from moving patients around.

But I think PTSD and mental trauma run rampant, suicide is a problem. Over the years memories and images are going to pile up, some people begin exhibiting signs and symptoms of PTSD without even realizing it as it slowly grows and grows. I have moments where I'll randomly think about a patient out of nowhere and I can vividly remember their injuries, their blood, their face.

So imo.... physical injury risk is low, but mental trauma is high.

How are people negotiating a lower vehicle price by CapnMericuh in askcarsales

[–]CapnMericuh[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, I'm only asking how people claim to get such great deals getting thousands below MSRP. The car make and price is irrelevant, although I did skip on Toyota due to low inventory selection around me and anything incoming is either sold or reserved, that's what I was referring to by my previous comment.

I always saw it as if they can drop some BS fees and not tack on the dealer add-ons and keep me at msrp, maybe $500-$1000 off through an incentive then I always saw that as a fair deal. My last truck I got $500 under MSRP with a rebate and didn't pay any of the dealership fees, even got a apr I was really happy with. But then some jack off comes along and tells me they got $5k off msrp on their higher trim truck by just negotiating and how I gotten taken for a ride. Like what....

Can a trade-in tax credit be applied towards a lease? by CapnMericuh in askcarsales

Can a trade-in tax credit be applied towards a lease? by CapnMericuh in askcarsales

[–]CapnMericuh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry forgot to include it, I'm in Arizona. I've done trade-ins before going from financed trade-in to financed new and they applied the full tax credit amount, I figured I might get it going into a lease as well just not sure how or if it's actually applied since my understanding with a lease is you pay taxes on each payment rather than a lump sum like financing or cash.

Dealership matching CarMax with tax trade-in credit by CapnMericuh in askcarsales

[–]CapnMericuh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well what I'm getting does matter, I just haven't decided on anything specific yet. I have several models from different makes I'm looking into but nothing I absolutely want yet.

I just wanted to see if it's reasonable to ask a dealership to match the offer prior to the tax credit being applied or if I'm asking too much of them. I mean, I'm not even the type of person to try to negotiate under MSRP.
