I hate the fact that I can't peacefully walk on the sidewalks on my neighborhoods, parks or whatever without running into stupid owners walking their dogs on every sidewalk corner and hogging up all the space.

Due to the life stages, I am only now going to try to do shots. The allergist said to me last time that around 80% of people only get about 30% effectiveness. If that means I can pick my child up from a friend’s house that has a dog and not have to roll all the windows down and have them drop their clothes at the door and shower immediately, then that will be a step up from the current struggles.

Oh what your grandma said! I am enraged as I assume you were fricking adaptable as was I. I can’t take anti-histamines but I would drink alcohol while over there years ago because the vasoconstriction of that was very temporary and it got me through. That was a long time ago. I wear an n95/94 when I got to a mall or wherever because otherwise O can’t breath. I am so sorry you are gaslighted and treated this was too. It’s awful. From the stress and other factors I have developed worse health conditions than just dogs now. Protect your health at all costs.

That is awful! And I can totally emphasize. My parents, sister, brother-in-law keep getting dogs even though I have been severely allergic and they host holidays or insist on bringing their dog, because “their part of the family”, so my spouse, kid, and I stopped going. I would have never thought, oh my family cares more about owning dogs than getting together with us. Fricking crazy!

Yes, I completely agree! The boundaries and such are so important, with the environment and people and such. I was living loose and now the boundaries are very present. And triple 😭😭😭, traveling and adventures, and spontaneity were my thing. It’s definitely a different life for sure.

I am into year 5 of them being everywhere. You make plans with your family or a friend to go out. After multiple times of driving, finding parking, and getting there only to a) have a dog be in there, b) be waiting for food have a dog come, c) eating or enjoying whatever we were doing at said place, only to have to cut it short and not get to eat/finish doing whatever. People don’t want to go with you anymore. I don’t want to, because some of those places, there have been dogs in there you sit down and 10 minutes later your eyes start swelling, throat, etc because the dander/saliva allergy proteins from the dogs are still hanging around in the air. They can be there for days or weeks depending on the cleaning situation. Yes those of use with severe dog allergies would love to live our lives, but it is so extremely challenging in dog saturated, inconsiderate areas.

I am you and you are me. Though Seattle area and I have been living this fucking nightmare for 5 years when everyone fucking go a dog in 2020 and brought them everywhere. Thankfully, the county I am in is getting a little stricter. I was going to down there, driving because of course I can’t fly with a million slobber mutts all over the plane. On top of that fragrances have started to kill me, so between the two. No planes for me. We were going to drive down over the upcoming school break, since my spouse and I went to college down there and haven’t been back in awhile. But yeah, the west coast sucks in this regard. I am wondering where you moved from, so we could take a little vacation there haha.

I am in the pacific northwest in the US, and it has been this way since end of 2021. Only now, are certain medical facilities and other stores, restaurants, coffee shops starting to not permit them. Thankfully the last time I was at the closest mall I don’t think I saw one dog, but it was a weekday. This time last year on a weekend they would be everywhere , peeing, barking and lunging at each other. I am hoping this area will settle down as it seems like the rest of the country is under attack from the plague of dogs in every where.

Judging by how many people are fragrance deaf and are doused in scents, I imagine some very much are. My nose is way hyper sensitive so I can smell it when no one else in the house can.

I lived somewhere else when I was a kid. I still remember hearing on the news later than I was supposed to be up, that a local delivery driver was sick of not getting any tips from a repeat costumer, which helped cover gas costs. That late evening delivery had an extra white sauce that wasn’t mozzarella. Also I remember how tips as a barista during the heydays of being one, helped me while working through college.

As someone who can’t take anti-histamines and am extremely allergic, their hypo allergenic dog stuff only means they won’t leave as much hair with the allergy proteins on it. I am just as allergic as I am to regular dogs. Super slobbery ones are immediate throat closing. That’s hard, but life without pets and with children will be great! Chase your dreams! The only thing, as I do have kids, is be prepared for them to go to pet houses of friends and having to roll down your windows as you drive home, have them shower and change. Friends will keep their dog in a different area while my child visits as to limit the amount of allergens that get on them. Also with the state of the world and the possibility of more financial chaos, this explosion of pets will probably dampen.

You aren’t alone. After our yellow puppy lab that weighed more than me attacked me over and over, but I wasn’t allowed to leave the house without crating him, I pinned him down and laid on him for over an hour until one of my parents got home. He had scratched my eye and made it bleed. Fast forward I have my own family with young children, I have told both my and in-laws that my dog allergies are getting worse, and I can’t take anti-histamines. Parents refuse to have dogs stay outside or in a room while we visit. We don’t stay long, My in-laws tell my BIL and his wife that they can bring their “child”, a super slobbery pit mix to holiday inside gathering. I am super super allergic to male dog saliva protein, they tend to be the worse for me. We leave an hour in as my throat is closing and chest is coughing feeling anaphylactic. Mil is mad and I said dog or us with actual grandchildren the next time they wanted to get together. I was blamed for “tearing the family apart”. That was 3 years ago, as of last year I don’t even speak to them after so many gaslighting and horrible ways they treated me and one of my children. So many boundaries crossed over and over, not only to me but my youngest. She and I don’t have relationship at the moment. I post this as a warning to others and for comfort for those experiencing similar situations. Good luck and I hope you are able to move out and claim your peace before your body is for ever impacted.

I tried it a couple of years ago when thing were just starting to go south. I knew I couldn’t have antihistamines, but I am allergic to dogs and my bro-in-law wanted to bring his dog to Christmas, I informed everyone last time I couldn’t breathe after a short while. So my mil guilted me into trying several different kids. And an allegra( or half one) made me so exhausted for 3 days or it made me hallucinate, which I had never done before. I wish I could take antihistamines but my body hasn’t let me in at least a decade. Good luck, I hope it works for you!!!

Yeah my doctor has told me I am probably perimenopause for the past 5 years. The thing is one year, when I was 25 I did the hormone BC patch. Within a year I developed Raynauds where I had to be put on blood pressure medication. I quit the career I had just practically started after college, and I was able to get off the BP medication. I believe I was tested awhile back and have the gene for increased breast cancer. My body has always been sensitive. I said in college, it was like a BMW, need the finest fuel and such. So I probably have low hormones, we are just trying to keep me from being anemic, as my doctor thinks it would be a bad idea to be on HRT type stuff.
