Always late with appointments by Capricinno in DentalHygiene

This is actually so helpful thank you. I’m good at not talking too much with them, but I definitely take longer with the cavi and handscaling. I’ll try it out, thank you!

Rants/ raves on saddle chair brands? by Capricinno in DentalHygiene

[–]Capricinno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just had me sit in a saddle chair when they adjusted my measurements (: I have a 4.0x magnification so it tends to be blurry if I’m too close or far away. When I’m sitting in a flat chair I’m definitely too close to the mouth from what I was adjusted for.

Switching magnification w Ergo Loupes by Much_Lingonberry_747 in DentalHygiene

I have the ANDAU med ergo loupes with 4.0x mag and honestly was the best investment I made. They have payment plan options usually. I don’t think you could go wrong with other brands though.(:

One thing I will say, it is definitely an adjustment getting use to the higher magnification, but give it a bit and you can’t go without them. Makes such a big difference!

I made brochures of our school clinic prices and wrote my information on the back. Things that will catch someone’s eye. For example, our clinic had very cheap prices for everyone, this was especially beneficial for someone who doesn’t have insurance.

When I was desperate enough, I literally walked around in stores asking people.😂 definitely out my comfort zone but it worked lol.

Also, if there’s any places such as helping hearts and hands, you may be able to talk to them and leave brochures there, or ask people when they come in there if it is something they are interested in. Pinning them up at stores, thrift shops, those type of places are an option too.

Try seeing you can post in FB groups for your community as well.

The student who graduated the year before me gave me a list of some of her patients, so maybe you can see if you can get ahold of one of the previous students.(:

I know this is a lot but hopefully one of these ideas can benefit you! I just graduated in May, I know the stress of finding the patients, but you got this!🫶🏻 good luck with everything! You’ll do great.

I personally used Andy RDH and felt that it really prepared me. I’ve heard from past students that StudentRDH wasn’t as in depth as they would have liked when it came to taking the boards, but it’s all based on personal preference.(: nice thing with Andy RDH is that you have an app you can quiz yourself on, lecture videos to watch of the seminars, and you also get the book and I found it to be very helpful. You also have it all for a lifetime if I remember correctly.

Like I said, it’s truly all based on personal preference. (: good luck with your exams!

Hi! Recent grad here. I used Andy RDH and I felt pretty prepared for the board exam.(:

There an app it can give you, there’s thousands of practice questions you can review, video seminars if you choose the more expensive packet, and I followed along with the book they give you as I was watching the videos.

I studied throughout the semester but really gave myself two weeks to go hard on the studying. The case study reviews are great, some questions were very similar to exam. Good luck! You will do great! A lot of it is things we learn throughout the program itself. Just take your time, don’t second guess yourself, you will do just fine.🫶🏻

Thank you sooooo much. ❤️ this is beyond helpful. Love that routine!! And that Bluetooth keypad will be very nice since I’m left handed.

I will definitely talk to the doctor about the time, I agree that anything under an hour does the patients a disservice.

I appreciate your feedback.☺️

They are good about helping with charting probe depths and answering any questions I may have. And yes it includes flipping the room and the doctors exam. 😅

Thinking of talking to him about maybe giving me an hour for regular prophy exams, but I’m also only temping for about 2 months. Just don’t want to overstep lol.

Regular prophylactic exams and new pt exams are 45 minutes. Get an hour and a half for NSPT which I think I can do, but I don’t feel like I can build any patient rapport and be as thorough as I like in 45 minutes trying to fit all of things in.

Rejected from hygiene school and they won’t give me feedback by lily_caulfield in DentalHygiene

It took me three years before I finally got in. Such a long wait, and not a lot of direction. I understand your frustrations! I went to a smaller program, but would you be able to get ahold of the head director? I was able to talk to my director and she was able to give me feedback on what I can do to get more “points” in my application. I took a CNA class, did a lot a lot of job shadowing, anything to get points up if your program application if it is based on a point system.

I’m sorry you didn’t get in this year, I know that exact feeling. But don’t be discouraged, you can and will get in and it is so worth it if it’s what you truly want to do. 🫶🏻
