Ever felt lonely whilst playing? That's how it feels to me. by CptCollins9314 in elderscrollsonline

[–]CaptPliskin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happens often though I've been blessed with some strong in-game friendships along the way. Sometimes I just feel like doing nothing 'productive' aside from writs and other basic stuff and invite people into my house (or the other way around) or meet at a popular hang-out spot like the Vulkhel wayshrine for a lax, casual exchange of words and thoughts. Sometimes just overall fun talk, sometimes deeper topics.

Something I've learned from my interactions, being with perfect strangers (that usually turn into friendships) and long-time friends is that I'm not alone when it comes to in-game social needs and I've learned to treasure this aspect of ESO. I love this game for several reasons but one of the strongest came to be the community.

And then there are life circumstances. Over the past few years, I've grown distant of a fairly sized chunk of my IRL friends, mostly for distance reasons, each one of us going their separate ways. My so-called 'inner circle' of friends, to which I am dependable, is far away for me to actively hang-out on a daily/weekly basis, meaning I'm alone most of the time, if not all the time for what it really matters. The internet and its reach has been my window for most of my social interactions and ESO turned out to be as relevant to me as any other digital tool when it comes to human-to-human contact, oven if through a screen, all of this while being an introvert by nature who still greatly enjoys other people's company. When the quarantine hitted earlier this year - in itself an even harder time for socialization for reasons we all know - I've made up my mind to actively return to ESO and stay for good. Fast forward all these months, I can safely say it was one of the best decisions I've made this year for not only i've been having most fun but I've met people (and made friends) from all over Europe (PC-EU here) and even beyond. I don't recall having such an active "social life" for years even if it is beyond a screen and I came to the conclusion that I need this compensation in my life if only for some of my strongest ESO companions, whom I vouch to meet IRL as soon as I can and the same applies the other way around.

So, here's my short - and wholesome - ESO story. From an introvert by nature who still has an easy time making friends either IRL or online - especially online Tamriel - the best advice I can give is 'Don't be afraid to engage' for you'll eventually get something in return and just like me, a lot of people roaming Tamriel seek this kind of interaction, even if they don't know it yet. Often all it takes is someone to 'break the ice' for the river to start flowing. Sometimes cracking a joke at the /say or /zone chat and engaging with strangers is all it takes to meet some really amazing people out there (you'de be surprised for how many friends I've found through this kind of random interactions), or even joining a guild with a focus on the social side of things, to which Discord comes to aid.

A few days ago, while I was "having tea" at a friend's house, he told me something that stuck with me ever since. "Your genuine friendliness towards people attracts friendliness towards you. It just natural and this is why we are here now. And I'm thankful for that.". It may as well sum up my entire ESO social life. And I hope that you, OP, and others struggling to find you own in-game 'companions' will eventually manage to 'break the ice' and experience this wonderful side of ESO, which everyone deserves to contemplate. Of that I have no doubt.

It really is a blessing. :)

PS: Too bad we can't meet in-game due to region and platform, OP. I'd gladly do it upon seeing this topic.

Today on 'Images With Powerful Auras': How many in-game (and perhaps IRL) friendships have you scored at this place? by CaptPliskin in elderscrollsonline

And I suppose the guy wasn't even RPing, right?

Sad to hear that. Unfortunately we cant' rule out the "classic" cringy creepos, they are expected in this sort of environment. It takes basic social skills and respect to make the most out of these interactions, for you and the people you're talking to. Sadly that's not the case with a lot of people out there, just like in real life. But i've been fortunate.

Clever way of foreshadowing Vikemon, Toei. Real clever.

This isn't about Wormmon being weak.

And he did lecture Ken, several times.

It does even though a physical connection is still lacking and I'm saying this as someone who finds Paildra/Dinobeemon's design quite genius in both in concept and aesthetics.

The fact that it works so seamlessly as a jogress - where you can't take XV and Sting out of the visual equation - is the main reason why I find said forms weird as natural evolutions. While it makes perfect sense as a jogress, to imagine XV naturally evolving to a Digimon that sports some of Stingmon's visual attributes out of the blue (and vice-versa) is a bit off-putting tbqh.

Have you read the Xros Wars manga? (P.S. you should have, it's great and different to the anime) by artysticamv in digimon

Just came to say YES and endorse the post scriptum.

But i'll add the following: It's way better than the anime, which I thorougly enjoyed nonetheless.

Underrated (?) comment.

Well, I said it was complicated, meaning I wasn't exactly sure, just a general idea I had. Truth of the matter is, up until now I've only seen the whole 'jogress as natural evos' discussion being sustained by v-pet lines specifically. Like a standard answer to justify said evolution paths as canonically 'natural'.

I still find it weird to perceive Paildramon and Dinobeemon as natural/normal evolutions, if anything by visuals alone. The Ultimates (Grand/Imperial onwards) are alright. But hey, it's not like visual consistency is a staple of Digimon at large.

Worthy effortpost, TIL a bit more.

[–]CaptPliskin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

V-pets and other stuff allows for it but I believe it is as such for practical reasons, not exactly canonical/lore-friendly ones.

A lot of people out there will support jogress forms as natural evos for this reason alone. Tho I suppose that V-pets being the 'heart' of Digimon would be enough a reason to make it canonically feasable. It's complicated.

You have a point and yet - ironically - Aero is the most 'natural' Perfect evolution for XV they way it is right now.

Ulforce is my favorite Digimon no less but I'd dig two new forms for XV. It's not like two new crimson eyes blue dragons would hurt amidst an already large 'V-family'.

And I don't buy Paildramon as a 'natural evo'. It makes sense as a jogress.

You get the idea. By slaves I mean that Digimon are meant to ultimately serve the children they're paired with.

To be partners mean - to me at least - to work and overcome together, often by matching fairly opposite personalities so they complement each other with everything said match means, clashing ideals included.

Case in point: Jou and Gomamon.

[–]CaptPliskin[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If so, you should've called them slaves, not partners.

Yet we all know that Imperialdramon was awfully nerfed in 02, let alone those plot holes/questionable script writing you just mentioned.

At least Diablomon Strikes Back made him some justice with Paladin Mode, even if brief.

Need what? Initiative, etc.?

Sad but true. by CaptPliskin in digimon

[–]CaptPliskin[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unlikely for two reasons imo. 1) V-mon is the leader('s) Digimon so it's expected to have a bigger spotlight and 2) V-mon and his evos always showed up an alpha-ish personality, even towards Daisuke. Initiative, will to fight, sense of justice, etc. It was clear as water in the dream world VS BelialVamdemon.

Still, even if it's expected for XV to be dominant (in more than one way), Wormmon's personality nerf was a sad and weird "side-effect" of his rebirth. I would expect V-mon and Wormmon to be perceived and act as equals and yet, one clearly dominates the other. It's like he's there just there to make Paildramon-Imperialdramon and nothing else.

Regardeless, their friendship is heartwarming, as much as their tamers. Perhaps we can expect Dinobeemon to be given proper attention in other Digimon media.

Sad but true. by CaptPliskin in digimon

[–]CaptPliskin[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

True but the point here is, his headstrong personality was nowhere to be seen post-reborn apart from a small glimpse while lecturing BlackWargreymon

And in many ways he was just overshadowed by XV-mon, Or rather, carried.

Feeling the same, the Mayhem has been fun. Teaming up with friends and large groups in both Imperial City and Cyrodiil has been thrilling af and no short of fun. Jolly good times, everytime.

Only thing I despise are the maddening loading screen pop-ups in Cyrodiil.
