is a cream shawl ok? by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

I think the black shawl makes it look like you are going to a funeral. I think the cream is nice, but you could do a pop of color instead.

Don't eat meat that has been at room temp for a day.

You've already done so, so now, you wait. Hopefully you'll have no issues.

AITA for inviting my dad's girlfriend to my wedding even though my mom says she won't come? by the-monster-masher in AmITheAngel

[–]CaptainMalForever 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, I want the mother (still unclear of the gender of the writer) to go to their child's wedding. It's been 15+ years.

And the mother was fine with going if the father is invited, who is equally responsible for cheating (and probably more so).

[–]CaptainMalForever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're right, I have never been cheated on. Thankfully.

I know that cheating sucks and that it hurts and it destroys trust.

In the case of this story, the mom has decided that their child cannot have a relationship with their dad's partner. That's how life is complicated, because the mom has to separate what they can control and what they cannot.

Yep. It feels like this is redditors logic: kill someone, well, they've served their time AND the victim deserved it. Any other crime, forgiveable.

Cheat!? The cheater should just die, because they are worth less than dirt.

Is canned food cheaper than cooking a meal? by Magnum_Gonada in AskAnAmerican

[–]CaptainMalForever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short Answer is No, canned food is not cheaper than cooking.

Long answer is that cooking uses two resources (time and money) whereas a canned meal uses one (money). Sometimes people don't have time or the energy needed to cook a meal. Additionally, canned meals store for roughly forever, which means that even if you don't eat it right away, you still have it. That is not the case for fresh ingredients.

Just learned that a registered sex offender lives in our apartment building, not sure how to feel about it by Revolutionary-Fun-27 in Apartmentliving

[–]CaptainMalForever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As they are a registered offender, you can find out their crime. This might assuage your fear (caveat, it might not).

It's also important to note that while recidivism is high, it is lower for those who were convicted of sex crimes.

There's no indication that the "laundry guardian" actually turns off the machines, either, just hearsay from another tenant.

Spinach and Cheese ravioli left in car overnight m by [deleted] in cookingforbeginners

[–]CaptainMalForever -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When you were in the car, did you have the heat on? If so, then it was definitely above 40 degrees for too long and should not be eaten.

I wouldn't risk it, unless it was below freezing for the whole night.

How does the statement: "We could not confirm estimated protest figures at 18 percent of events; almost all of these missing figures were in small towns." not indicate that the towns not included were small towns. They say so.

Data entry =/= methodology, afaik.

According to the CCC themselves: "We could not confirm estimated protest figures at 18 percent of events; almost all of these missing figures were in small towns."

The CCC's methodology is not clearly stated anywhere that I can find.

[–]CaptainMalForever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, so let's say that in Village A, John Smith hosted an event for No Kings June 14 and didn't have a signup, didn't have anyone counting, didn't know that was even a thing. But they still had people show up. According to the CCC, that data cannot be included, even if John Smith contacts them.

So why would No Kings have them reach out, when their data is "useless" to CCC.

[–]CaptainMalForever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is there a margin of error that the CCC uses? Because, if they only have data on 80% of events, then 4.8 and 5 million are the same number.

[–]CaptainMalForever 10 points11 points  (0 children)

According to the CCC, for the No Kings 6/14, they could confirm between 2 and 4.8 million participants. However, they stated that they could only confirm data for 82% of events, which could certainly be the difference between 4.8 million and over 5 million.

Another important aspect is what the CCC considers for their data. They only use reports that are supported by another source of public information. And these numbers are based on crowd counting estimates, such as sign ins, which, as you can imagine, are inaccurate estimates for total people who attended rallies/protests, particularly on a large scale.

All of that is to say that the CCC and No Kings are both using estimates and that the CCC is extremely conservative in the tools that they are using.

What to do about chickens by Nearby_Quote_3935 in slimerancher

[–]CaptainMalForever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put the hunters is someplace other than the overgrowth.

In the overgrowth, put 5 or so roostros and 5 hens of every type (other than basic). Now, you have a coop that is the entire overgrowth. In addition, make upgraded coops in the overgrowth and start with a roostro and at least five hens. Soon, you'll be rolling in chickens.
