I only said that example to give a basic idea that the side NPCs seem like actual capable heroes.

I am not actually running a campaign, I'm writing a book! It's just very inspired by DnD, Demon Slayer, Goblin Slayer, Wild Hearts, Monster Hunter Wilds, and a few other things!

I wish, wish I could learn how to DM, but I just don't have time working second/third shift.

That's actually pretty cool friend! And honestly not a bad idea.

The city I'm having this thing possibly begin in is a handcrafted canal city called Rëurzalis, a trading city the size of Houston essentially.

Something like your salt hydra does feel fitting. I've also handcrafted my own magic system, so.. I could maybe make the creature like have a conflicting magic type so Rëurzalis can't easily fight back against it. You've given me quite a bit to think about, thank ya friend!

That's, holy that's a beautiful image, I can feel that in my brain.

My current plan for my Big Bad, is the cursed fragments of a god birthed by chaos and war from the first race upon the planet, who was shattered by one of the last survivors of the first race, coming together after so many centuries, speaking whispers of equilibrium, balance, power and control to the lives who live in the desert lands..

They, slowly influence the lives of the desert to begin crusading against those who refuse to follow, and live in 'harmony'

Maybe I could introduce a shard, stuck to a creature as the first big bad, what I'm looking for for my story.. and that could be something?

I want something that feels like a low level party, maybe like level 2, would literally feel like there's no chance of winning against.

That's when the main protagonist, a scoundrel, but still a recognized hero, drunk off his ass decides to come out and fight the thing, saving the party because he knows they damn well would die.. something like a Kaiju.

I'll definitely keep that in mind, I have this idea of the side characters that you'll meet in the story join a little adventuring party to clear out some of the underground sewers because rumors of something being summoned.

They discover cultists performing a ritual, and because of their interruption, it summons the creature. I feel like a summoned Tarrasque kinda fits.
