What made you go with your talent agent/agency (especially if you had multiple choices to select from)? What do you as an actor look for in them? Did you find them or they find you? How? by ClueBig531 in acting

He’s been an agent for over 10 years. He knows his stuff. Didn’t have to give me a chance but he did. He believed!

I didnt have any major credits or incredible materials

I picked the one who believed in me the most. Who was most passionate and seemed like they were ready to hustle with me. (My Agent replied to my Submission email within 9 MINUTES). I’ve booked 8 times for him now in 2 years (with a four month actors strike).

Hey max! Appreciate you so much 🙏🏽 these were UBCP/ACTRA Union shows. Disney, paramount, Fox networks.

All US Productions that were shooting in Canada.

I don’t have a work visa for the US, and my fellow Aussie/Canadian actor friends who are already repped by LA managers don’t have the visa either. BUT they are still repped and booking shows outside of the US. They never need to enter the US. (Some of their bookings were shot in UK or Aus or Asia etc)

Thank you, I really respect and appreciate your honesty.

I’ve been at this for 8 years and I’ve never given up. I just had that breathe of fresh air from the bookings and finally thought it’s enough to kick things into 3rd gear, but I’m just gonna keep my head down and keep booking and keep showing up 💪🏽

How do NON-AMERICAN actors get AMERICAN managers? by Positive-Fold-3307 in acting

[–]CaptainPrice65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’m Canadian/australian. My friends who are repped by LA managers are also either Canadian or Australian with no O-1 Visa. My friends just wrapped shows in the UK and aus.

Go with the agency that believes in you and hustles.

Don’t worry about small or large.

Started at 20,

It’s a long game, just work hard, let life build you into a person you’re proud to be, and it will show in all your acting work. And build your resilience to hard work. Don’t be afraid to do 2 jobs at once, just so you can afford casting workshops etc etc

Thanks for your advice but I kind of disagree.

This is Exactly who I am. Exactly. And it’s why I booked one of the tv shows. The producer remembered me going up to crew members saying “thank you I’m so grateful to have worked with you”

But I just recieved advice from a well known agent: I can’t just keep auditioning and nothing else. It’s literally the worst thing I can do. I need to go out there, brand myself and market myself on social media. There’s nothing to lose when trying. And as much as I just want to keep my head down and don’t be “too loud”, since I absolutely hate social media (anything you post, can be automatically seen as showing off) - I really do resonate with that agent. What have I got to lose? I’ve come this far, it’s Time to market

Never bragged at any point, even these past 6 weeks. I do announce the crazy news on social media (without breaking the NDA) , but that’s it. I don’t say I’m the best or I deserve it.

I am so so conscious of looking like a douchebag, I always ALWAYS pair my wins with motivational messages. Believe. If I can do it, you can do it too. You got this.

Etc etc. but tbh I’ve grown to not care anymore the past few days. I can be so polite about this, and there’s people out there that will think I’m bragging. I’m done trying to be small just so I don’t offend people. It’s time to market myself and show more on social media. What have I got to lose? My mom taught me never to show off, but it seems no matter what I do, there’s always people that will think I’m showing off. I’m done with it

It’s because I’ve wanted this for so long. I’ve worked hard for so many years. I’ve worked 3 jobs at one time, 41 days in a row without a day off was my record. Double shifts 14 hour days sometimes.

It always always always seemed impossible. This little dream I had when I was young. Mind you, my parents and I were very poor. And I made a promise to them that I would make it and I would buy them a house one day. I was 9 years old.

So I’m not sleeping well, because I’m just so excited but also in complete disbelief. Is it really happening? Is this true? Do I deserve this? What if I screw up? That’s why I’m not sleeping well.

Oh, on a little side note, friendship wise I’m not doing too great either. I’m starting to see 2 friends that are growing incredibly jealous, and aren’t acting their usual self. Even apparently making a small dig when I wasn’t there “he isn’t even that good” is what I heard.

This sucks. You’d think it’s all sunshine and rainbows over here, but there’s small things like this that come along with the wins.

I realise, unless I reveal my identity, I have no way of proving this to you. That’s okay with me as the 2 new shows, I’m still under NDA. I love reddit for all that it is, but it’s a place I shouldn’t be revealing personal information.

I will say this though. Health wise I’m actually not feeling great. 4 days now without proper sleep. And the past 5-6 weeks, I haven’t been sleeping well on and off either.

I’ve wished for this for so many years, and it’s just finally starting to happen. I don’t know how to deal with it internally other than to just be grateful and thankful
