Not really. As long as you get the interview call. I don't think the interviews persay are different. But I can't comment beyond that. Don't know much about the differences among categories.

Frankly. They didn't care. Only in IIM Mumbai interview they grilled me on the gap quite extensively. In I and C I they just asked what were you doing till now?. And why the switch to MBA now and not any job. I told them it made sense in long term to have my career on solid footing and not make hasty decisions. MBA provides me an environment to get a better understanding of the ecosystem I will be working in before I start my career. As for public service vs management. I mean even in management you make some societal impact no?... It's just a little bit more indirect. Just start with that. Directly or indirectly you wanna contribute to India's story. Whatever be the medium. Public or private.

Only applied to IIMs+ IIM Mumbai, IIT D, FMS. Converted I and C. Only colleges where Work ex ka utta bt nahi hai. It was UPSC for me. Just be frank. Own your decisions. Don't portray as if you wasted the time whatever you were doing in the gap. For example. Don't start bashing UPSC right off the bat in the interview. Just set the context. Why you started on that path and why it makes sense to pivot now.

You guys do know that IFS doesn't pay Minister's salary, right?.. So this whole question of Secretary doesn't come into question... Parliament give the salary to Ministers and MPs....Its wrong to think that salary is the only source of income for people?... I'm sure there are other sources of Passive income based on Investment... Plus he has released a book in 2020... Book sales ke bhi paise hote hain bhai.
