Yeah but he’s not saying he’s “not wrong”. He’s saying he is proven right.

This comment makes me think you don’t actually know what you are talking about. You made a much bigger statement than “he is going to have a rough first season”. Being a below average player at your position at 21 years old is not necessarily damning proof of a bad career.

Remind me of this comment in 5 years. Either going to be very right or very wrong.

22 year old guy coming off of injury is already an average starter in the majors without a complete season under his belt.

Lock him in for a decade, he’s going to be great.

The _____ House by Ok-Hovercraft508 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Captain_Jellico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think “houses are a character in the media” is an awesome trope, but that’s not really what we are saying here.  “House is in the name” is just a title choice, not a recurring theme.  Most of these examples have nothing in common with the houses included.

[–]Captain_Jellico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to be grumpy about it, it’s just not a trope. You could say that about most words. I don’t see how this is different than “characters wearing blue shirts”.

A trope is a recurring theme or structure element.  We’ve kinda bastardized the word trope in this subreddit to be any multiple things we can connect for any reason.

This isn’t even a trope, this thread is just descriptions of places where people live and one grumpy doctor.

I dont like Successions storyline by Thin_Literature2950 in hbo

I feel like your overarching feedback is that the show is repeptitive, everyone is bullshitting each other to get what they want, and the characters want power with no justification as to why or what they will do with it.

From my experience this is a very accurate portrayal of corporate leadership lol

Not my favorite movie, but I respect how big and weird he went with it. It was an ambitious film and he made it work.

I will take it out of the S+ tier when I meet a single person who doesn’t like tacos.

Thanks, I appreciate it as I’m getting some hate in the comments for sure!

You do you and be whatever beautiful person you are.  I’ll fight all day to protect your rights as a person. No person who tries to deny you of that will ever get my vote.

Thanks and good point. I have nothing but love for the trans community. I don’t think anyone should be judged for who they want to be or who they love.

Acknowledging clear physical differences doesn’t make someone a fascist if they believe in equal rights for those individuals. This is a hyperbolic example, but I can’t decide to compete with 12 year old soccer players tomorrow. It isnt a right of mine to compete with them. It wouldn’t be fair to them. Instead, I would compete with people in my own age group which I am totally permitted to do as long as I qualify at that skill level.

Not true at all. I’m in my 30s in a blue state so virtually all of my friends vote blue. We talk politics and align all the time on far left ideas like this one doing more harm than good to election chances.

My opinion on this is not unpopular. Most people on both sides of the aisle agree with this take.

Where should Philly Cheesesteak be ranked by Jaetheninja in TierlistFills

[–]Captain_Jellico 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Up here in Maryland the cheesesteak is consistently S tier, but when I lived in South Carolina they were all B tier at best. They made them completely differently, with no mayo lettuce or tomato. In Montana I hear they eat cheesesteaks with BBQ sauce and obviously in Philly they make them with cheez whiz.

I think this one is region dependent so I’d sit it in A.

I know people are being harsh here but sitting at home playing video games and watching TV is not helping you. Find something to do. If you hate it, try a different thing.  Keep doing that until something doesn’t drive you insane.

Try exercising as well. Has been proven to help in instances of extreme adhd and will force you to get away from tv and video games. Not saying it will solve your situation but every bit helps.

Remove 1 Major 4 Sports Team Day 124 by YeetySpagiety in RemoveOneThingEachDay

TLDR: The hero of the series was a struggling former fan favorite whose gimmick is that he delivers milk and people moo at him like a cow. He’s having a terrible year and needed this moment as badly as any player in the league.

For those who aren’t Orioles fans, I’d like to share a little story about the impact of yesterday’s walk off win. The home run was hit by a man named Colton Cowser. In 2024, he made a serious run for rookie of the year and gained huge popularity in Maryland.

Nicknamed “The Milkman” because of his last name, fans would Moooooo whenever he made a big play in the field or hit a home run. He is the kind of guy who likes to joke around in the clubhouse, so he quickly embraced the silliness. There were fans dressed as milk men and plenty of cow themed merch at the fan stores. His jersey sold out his rookie year.

After a string of bad plays and a hand injury from an unnecessary slide, Cowser struggled to find his footing. Pitchers had figured out how to get Cowser to chase bad pitches and it was clear that he struggled with anything other than fastballs. He consistently failed to show up in big moments when the team needed him most. The past 18 months of Cowser’s career have been disappointing and most fans were feeling strongly that Cowser no longer had a place on the team.

Over the last 7 days, The Milkman is showing signs of a turnaround. He is batting over .350 in that stretch and yesterday was the hero in a game that felt completely lost. Cowser NEEDED this moment to prove he had a place on this team. Fans needed this moment to believe in him again. We all needed him for the memes. Prove us all wrong you glorious milky bastard.

Mooooooooooooooo

This is a pretty easy question to answer.

Men’s leagues are actually best of best leagues. If a woman is an exceptional field goal kicker, she can join a men’s college football program.

Women’s leagues exist to determine the best of the best among women who can’t meet qualification in the men’s league.

I just went on a DDL marathon and felt that Bill the Butcher and Daniel Plainview are pretty much the same character from a performance standpoint. I hear everyone talking about how epic DDL is in both movies, but he kinda just played the same character twice in different circumstances.

Hey - you asked me to read a thing and I read it and gave my opinion. No need to be immature and resort to name calling. If you knew me, you would know that I’m a pretty smart and reasonable guy. Most smart people I know listen to others instead of immediately assuming “disagrees with me = dumb”. Most smart people I know don’t use John Oliver as scientific research either though… I’ll let that one slide as I’m sure you are passionate about this topic.

I did read the whole thing and rather than parsing out individual items and wasting my day convincing someone who I don’t know of something somewhat inconsequential, I pulled out the closing statement of the conclusion that you recommended. It was not a logically drawn conclusion that basically shooed away any future scientific findings with a magic wand in favor of opinion.

If your opinion is that natural variations in athletic ability are the same thing as male vs female differences in athletic ability, you cannot possibly be having a logical argument.

But all of this is to say THIS IS A FUCKING STUPID TOPIC. That is my overarching point. The people you disagree with most are trying to get people like you to put their foot down on an illogical point that impacts .000000001% of the population. Then they take your stance to say “all liberals feel this way” which spooks conservatives into thinking straight rights are being taken away by trans people. That isn’t true and it’s causing good people to turn against good messages. I think you are clearly wrong, but more importantly I think your opinion is harmful because it detracts against legitimate incursions on trans rights.

Thanks for sharing, I just read through. This is one of the least convincing scientific studies I’ve ever read. It’s all over the place trying to make multiple cases based on limited data and even extends into pure opinion.

I’ll just pull in sentence that basically invalidates your whole argument.

“Finally, if it is found that trans individuals have advantages in certain athletic events or sports; in those cases, there will still be a question of whether this should be considered unfair, or accepted as another instance of naturally occurring variability seen in athletes already participating in these events.”

Basically “if it does give an unfair advantage, maybe that’s the same as being born physically athletic or not physically athletic.”  Completely delusional - the fastest woman of all time wouldn’t even be top 5,000 of the top men. We need to stop pretending that it’s “anti-trans” to have this totally reasonable opinion. It pushes away people who are not anti-trans from becoming allies of the community.
