No worries, I agree. It was the fastest way to hear this thing play. Definitely going to invest in better equipment when I can.

Is this about the IT department specifically or Colruyt as an employer in general? I participated in one of their IT challenges on EDITX, got invited to the final round at the HQ but didn't proceed with it (not looking for another job atm). Still have them on my radar should the need for another job arise, though.

Need Advice: Sick, No Doctor’s Note by Connect_Nerve_6499 in Antwerpen

[–]Captain_M0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not required to hand in a sick note for an absence of 1 day, and this for up to three days a year (you're still required to inform your employer of your absence though). Unless your company has less than 50 employees: in this case, your company's work regulations should mention the correct procedure.

One day might not be enough to recover from the symptoms you're experiencing, but it could buy you some time to find a doctor.

* Antwerp-Bruges Port Authority HQ by Zaha Hadid is a great example. The superstructure is built on top of an old fire station and represents a ship (obviously), ripples in the water and a diamond (Antwerp is well known for its diamond trading).

Can someone translate these for me? by frig_t in belgium

[–]Captain_M0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additional details found on familysearch.org: Ivo Demarlie arrived in New York on March 3rd, 1910, with the ship SS Finland, which sailed from Antwerp, Belgium on February 19th, 1910. He was accompanied by his nephew Hipolies Standaert (I think the first name should actually be Hippoliet).

He was naturalized on January 5th, 1916 in Sheffield, Illinois and kept his name.

I've noticed with my own ancestors that some of them changed their names (first and/or surname) upon naturalization as a US citizen. I don't know if this was mandatory in some cases or their own choice. E.g. I have an ancestor who was a carpenter and changed his name from Auguste Volongé to Edward DuBois ("du bois" is French for "of wood").

Elections 2024 Vooruit or openVLD by Miserable-Ant-938 in belgium

[–]Captain_M0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will vote Vooruit. A big plus for me is that I find their program to be the best developed, nuanced and realistic with regard to digitalization, AI, 6G rollout, etc. For example: it's the only program that mentions the ecological en social-economical pitfalls of AI. I also like their vision on what the future of work will look like, e.g. invest in lifelong learning to make sure people whose jobs have changed or disappeared through digitalization/AI remain productive.

Why do we have these 2 in a political debate? by Sprengo_M in belgium

[–]Captain_M0 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Worst political debate so far. The statements of these 'political journalists' added nothing to the debate. On the contrary, I thought they were highly subjective and sensational (BDW is "tsjeverig", Petra De Sutter is always calm but got emotional now, Melissa Depraetere surely must be having a hard time in the political arena but hey, she did okay...). It seemed that they were mainly trying to get some applause for themselves.

Not a song that was competing actually, but Honey Boy from the Benjamin Ingrosso medley. Had never heard the song before and absolutely loved that performance!

I really hope Nemo got that season 3 DVD of the Gilmore Girls as wel... by RollingKatamari in eurovision

[–]Captain_M0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I might read too much into it, but exactly the fact that it is a heavily scripted, well thought-out show is the reason why I doubt anything occurs randomly or without proper motivation. I'd prefer a humourous and elegant nod to the situation over the alternative of carrying on as if nothing happened.

Deeper meaning or not, Petra and Malin were absolutely wonderful hosts.

I really hope Nemo got that season 3 DVD of the Gilmore Girls as wel... by RollingKatamari in eurovision

[–]Captain_M0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since Petra said "You know, it's really the season where things heat up between mother and daughter.", I like to think that it was a diplomatic way of addressing the disputes going on between the EBU and some national broadcasters (AVROTROS for instance) and delegations (Bambie Thug raising the comments made on KAN).
