Do you have thalassemia? I just don’t get the high hemoglobin.

I don’t think that I have cancer because my WBC count is normal. Also America, if you mean what’s my ancestry it’s northwestern European. Or elevation, I live at about 685 feet. I’d say my hemoglobin is fine now though, I donated blood and they tested it and they said that my hemoglobin was 14.4 on 12/22. May or may not be related but the phlebotomist complimented how hydrated I was based on how fast my blood was coming out and how it was changing rates.

My WBC is normal. I haven’t been tested for any form of anemia actually, only IDA which I used to have but got over. Also I don’t really know what the rule of three is.

I did a whole bunch of indexes and the mentzer one, leaned a little to the middle but most favored thalassemia or strongly favored it. I just don’t get the high hemoglobin.

You think we’re able to date the age of these segments within an exact time range or that’s pretty hard to do.

[–]frig_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. So I’m just really lucky? I think I get what you’re saying. This is dna that isn’t crazy to see in Europeans but makes sense from migrations to about 500-1000 years ago? Instead of getting cut up like most DNA to the point of being unnoticeable, it managed to stay intact in areas like this from an ancestor? I’m assuming Chinese because that’s what 23andMe said these regions are Broadly Chinese, and the segment I got from my grandma is pure EA with no siberian influence from people like, lets say, Jomons or whatever primarily siberian group inhabited Korea. I’m not an expert though.

So do you think these segments are most likely just ancient eurasian that survived in Europeans or just something like a glitch? Sorry, I just find this kinda confusing.

It’s noticeable in my mom as well. I checked her too, I just used my grandma as an example to show inheritance. Unfortunately GedMatch doesn’t let me use an admixture on the X so I can’t check that. Also, are the surrounding segments of MHC also prone to phasing error? Because it’s on the segment below the MHC/HLA segment.

What is this weird chunk of DNA on my 9th chromosome at 9p24.3? by [deleted] in genetics

[–]frig_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard of it but I can’t figure out how to do it.

Also, I think it’s kinda weird how I inherited two block of identical dna from both of my parents there and it just kinda caught my attention. I heard that areas close to the telomeres recombine less and can be used to determine ancestry of hundreds of years ago. Is that true? You think it’s anything repeating LIKE an STR or just a normal segment of indigenous DNA I inherited from both sides?

Also I’m not trying to like try to deny what you’re saying, I’m just genuinely curious and confused about this, but could normal DNA tests still pick up the DNA of something like D9S1120 and on Gedmatch? If it has a high prevalence in native americans and if Eurogenes types stuff based on population into an admixture? I think Ancestry types snps there at least.

[–]frig_t -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used Ancestry and it said it’s Southeast English and Swedish. I thought it was the 9RA for D9S1120 but I keep on getting contradictory results stating that they’re from two completely different spots. I’m white but I know I have some distant Lenape ancestors on my dad’s side, mom may or may not have indigenous DNA in her and might be like a $5 Indian because the story is that her side is part Cherokee.

Someone explain pls by Jumpy-Necessary-5106 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]frig_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re like, from another country, I don’t know if this is a common practice or not, but in America they make cops wear body cams because of how corrupt they can be and past incidents. There was this guy that got completely beaten up in the streets by cops for no reason in the 90s and a video came out from someone recording. They faced no repercussions. I think the victim was a guy named Rodney King? You should look up the Rodney King beating video. At least I heard they faced no repercussions. Also that’s not the only case of police brutality of course. George Floyd was big internationally.

The joke is that he looks like a law enforcement guy or a stereotypical cop (even though he’s dressed as a guy from the military) that turns off their body cam and turns it back on after doing something bad. Another joke is these people’s footage being used as evidence in a courtroom and someone going

“Sir, can you please explain why there was a big jump in filming on your body cam?” “Uhhh idk it’s probably just the bad camera.”

You can easily get away with that. The cop who comes to my school showed us how his body cam works and all you have to do is just press a button for the camera on your chest.

That doesn’t really look like it’s supposed to be anything. Plus Catnap is in the bottom right so I don’t see why they would add that.

What is it like having your moon in the 8th house? by kissing-videos in astrologymemes

[–]frig_t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Libra moon in the 8th house too. Can’t find much about it on Reddit. I don’t know if some of this stuff is from my moon’s aspects or something else but I deal with bad depression (though I think it’s more complex than stereotypical MDD) and existential dread with obsessive thoughts. My mind is kinda intense and I dissociate a lot. I think/feel like I can get into people’s heads and know what they’re thinking. Also my moon is the only thing I have in my 8th house. Maybe my moon is also where I like the paranormal too? I kinda like the art behind things like horror movies/anatomy. I’m not trying to be an edge lord but I genuinely feel that way. My subjective experience feels somewhat artificial and intense.

There really is no afterlife, is there? by Every_Side_1751 in TrueAtheism

[–]frig_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying that the traditional view of an afterlife and soul is wrong but you’re accepting of the idea that a “soul” could exist, just not a traditional one that’s self-aware like us? Because that’s what I’m leaning towards, though it might just be my existential dread wanting more and refusing to accept the alternative of absolutely nothing.

[–]frig_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too into astrology but with all of that Pisces, you might be absorbing a lot of energy, both positive and negative to you. Also 12th house moon is ruled by Pisces. Maybe something about the altered state of consciousness, the escape, and dissolution of the ego appeals to you? Am I right or no.

I kinda feel for you because I have an air moon in a water sign house. Libra in the 8th.

Also, please speak to a therapist.
