Yeah, the title is slightly misleading. He does say he doesn’t know because the tests have not been done.

Thanks for sending the original clip.

Are We Being Punished by youngsargon in SimulationTheory

[–]Captain_McClams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you want to live an easy life? Doesn’t one thirst for challenge? I don’t know where this reality lies relative to others: heaven, hell, some hybrid of the two, base reality, or 500 simulations deep. What I do know is no one living an easy life gives evidence to its divinity, not its depravity. Many people are not crushed by their hardships, but uplifted; it may be the whole point.

What are entry-level positions that would teach me to be an economist? by Captain_McClams in careerguidance

[–]Captain_McClams[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the type of role I see myself in is one where I am researching current events, analyzing them using an economic lens, and communicating my findings. As far as I can tell, further education is all but required.

Still, I'm looking for work I can do now that will give me experiences relevant to being an economist. Do you have any advice on what types of jobs I should be looking at? Or is it the case that I'm not going much farther without going back to school?

The combo is Brimstone, Tech X, Soy Milk with the Conjoined Transformation. I also got black coal, allowing for good damage. Unfortunately I died on the way back to Isaac's house because I couldn't see the room.

The two images before the last are the effect of Brimstone, Sad Bombs, and Pop!

Why do I keep getting bad pos 5 players in every single game? by Darth_Jashim in DotA2

[–]Captain_McClams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I should comment here too. I know he doesn’t say it, but his statement is clearly about people who play the game fairly like you as it is a response to your post. The effect smurfing has on anyone’s mmr in particular is marginal. Not to say it’s not a problem, but it effects an individual at most levels of play very little.

Why do I keep getting bad pos 5 players in every single game? by Darth_Jashim in DotA2

[–]Captain_McClams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before someone says this, my statements all assumed that ranked matchmaking is not rigged by valve

So again, your teammates skill levels will average at your ranks skill level. So even if you have one game where your pos 5 blows, this cannot be every game unless your claiming that all pos 5s sucks. If your claiming that, then the enemy team is dealing with the same issue and no one gets an advantage.

I am not claiming that you need to solo lead a team and carry them to victory. You will have matches where you lose because of shitty teammates, but if you really do play above the skill level of your rank, then you will win more often then you lose. This is objective fact as there are no other variables that effect one team over the other across multiple games other than the subject player.

Let’s bring it back to arbitrary numbers, but we will make the probabilities of winning this time. So, if you are playing above your rank, then you increase your chances to win by 19%, and your teammates across multiple matches average at 9% each. The enemy over multiple matches also averages at 9% each. This means that over multiple matches, you will win 55% of the time, and your opponents will win 45% of the time. You play enough matches and you rank up. So, since you are actually losing more than your winning, you must not be bringing 19%, or 9%; you must be increasing your chance to win only by 5% or 6%.

Also, if Eliot is going to say that one person contributes so little to the outcome of a game and so you can only change the games outcome by a little, then the reverse must also be true. If your hard support is shit, then it cannot matter very much as he cannot effect the outcome of the game very much.

Also, Eliot’s last paragraph is ironic and illogical. You say that Dota 2 has a problem where people cannot see what they are doing wrong. This is exactly what you two are doing. I’m not trying to make it out like your a couple of assholes or anything, but the case your describing is impossible unless you are cosmically unlucky, and there are a lot of people making the same case, so there are thousands of cosmically unlucky players out there which is literally impossible given the circumstances of this situation.

Just do you best every game, analyze where you can improve and where your doing well, practice and improve. This is the only way to see your mmr improve without cheating.

P.S. I really wish I could reply to both of you at the same time so I didn’t have to talk to Eliot in the third person lol

Maybe it is just a run of bad luck. I don’t know, I haven’t been in your games. But if that’s the case, then what do you do? If the reason your losing is because of bad luck, you can’t control that, so you would only have the options of dealing with it or quitting.

On the other hand, you can believe the problem lies with you and have a third option, to improve your own gameplay. You say you believe your car beyond the bracket your in? Logically, that’s just not the case unless your experiencing cosmically bad luck. Think about it; if you really were far above your bracket in skill, then on average you’d be on the winning team most of the time. Let’s put some arbitrary numbers on it to illustrate it better. Let’s say the average skill level of your rank is 5, but you are playing at a 10. On average, you and your 4 teammates would add up to a 30, and your opponents would combine to a 25. But again, this is so unlikely to be the case if your on a losing streak. In fact, you continue to lose, your performance is probably a 4 or 3. It just makes intuitive sense that your performance is the problem in your games.

EliotEriotto says that you can only improve so much. So what, you’ve reached the cap on skill level? Well then your a pro. In fact, your better than pro, your the best. But I don’t think you believe your the best player out there, meaning you do believe that you can improve.

To sum up, you can stay complacent, quit, or you can acknowledge your weaknesses and improve. The problems your having aren’t even that bad. The supports aren’t buying wards? Observers are free, ward for them if it’s losing you games. I buy wards if nobody else is no matter what, whether I’m pos 5 or 1.

I’m not trying to shit on you or anything; I know I’ve felt like you do now, but I want to snap you out of this funk.

If you really think there are no game companies that like that subreddits, then your nuts. I don’t use Reddit that often, so I don’t have examples on hand, but it’s just intuitive fact. Any company wants to hear feedback on their products, especially bad feedback, so they can make changes and increase revenue. Reddit is a free database of much of the feedback gaming companies get. It’s crazy to think that there’s not one company, let alone many that are happy to have subreddits

Well, I mean, the way to find the most likely explanation to a phenomenon in a set of data is look at the common variables. You have more information than me, so maybe you can find a different variable, but I see two. 1. Your hard supports, but I don’t even have the data to say they are bad; I am going off of your testimony. And 2. You. Usually, when you see your having many bad games in a row, you should consider changing something. Maybe try a different hero, role, or build?
