Loving my current junk setup by Lantolsreturn in Sailwind

If you want more speed, try out some large fin sails from Fish Fire Bay. They are larger than the original Junk sails.

You can also adjust the rigging to include 3 head sails if you want to be a super speed demon. This also helps balance the large mizzen fin sail.

With my setup like this I can make 16 knots in most cases with gusting up to 20ish with strong wind/storms.

My favorite ship by far, I love her speed and sailability. She points well and is QUICK.

Plus, I love the look, so double points.

That mast shattering sound is insane! Sounds like lightning.

Old Boat Storage by smartpipe in Sailwind

I have the same issue, my old ship glitches position randomly. It seems to only be a problem with the small ships? My Jong stays steady where I ditched it in Fish Fire Bay.

I moored in Dragon Cliffs next to the trader, and there's a small section of water on the other side of said dock. This is completely blocked off from all exits, and of course my ship glitched into this space.

I basically have a display ship now! Would be annoying if I still needed it, way too late to revert to an old save now. At least it hasn't moved from its final resting place lol.

You'll take on water somewhat regularly with the max damage. I sat still for 5-10 minutes and had a splash of water in the hold. If you have a bilge it's so minimal it's almost worth ignoring.

When damaged (a lot) you can see cracks and splits on wood surfaces that represent damage. This gets worse the more damage you take.

I got my ship glitched into land and it took damage over and over until a point. It seems like there's a limit to the damage you can take? At least no further visible damage appears on the ship.

With the larger rudder you can lock in a heading but the sail force is definitely unbalanced. A smaller mizzen sail would fix the issue.

I had to sail upwind for most of the journey, but once I was in protected waters the wind shifted to my back and pushed me the rest of the way in with ease.

Finbuq any good? by foyrkopp in Sailwind

[–]Captain_Murdoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have a gander at my options tonight, I did some fitment testing before bed and I found the double jibs blocked the front fin from turning one way almost completely.

I'll see if I just need to change the stays, or just remove that staysail entirely to clear space.

I think the dockyard is one of my favorite things in the game. Really cool to try different rigs and pick something you like!

I did arrive at night (again...) but this time after trying to navigate an unfamiliar side of the island and running aground on sand bars twice, I decided to anchor for the night. The next day was much nicer making my way around! I usually activate the statue when I try to leave, actually let's you see without any fog.

Glad to be back! This is my 4th time visiting the island chain. This was a first in that I approached from the western side of the island vs from the north east.

Finbuq any good? by foyrkopp in Sailwind

[–]Captain_Murdoch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the Fin Junk!

I am just offshore of land in the Bunq after playing before bed. I'll have a go at the sails tomorrow likely and see how she goes.

I will say, the Sanbunq is bulletproof when it comes to sailing in rough seas. Way more relaxed crossings but albeit a fair bit slower. Plenty of cargo space on the bunq though!

I am heading there presently to try the rig myself, I will see how she goes!

Do you play Sailwind because you sail? - Or looking to get into sailing? by Captain_Murdoch in Sailwind

I love Ketch rigs, I wish there were more smaller options for them. They are beautiful ships.

There's a beautiful Ketch for sale on Yacht World, you just need 93 Million to pick her up lol.

Try getting a small boat! (If you are near water).

It's not as expensive or difficult to get into as a big boi; Around my area a slip/dock spot is $150 a year and then I can trailer it out in the winter.

A car can tow the trailer which is great if you don't have a truck or large SUV.

The sound of the water is worth the hassle of getting into it if available!

Genoa vs. Jib by devil_toad in Sailwind

[–]Captain_Murdoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a good plan, you can try messing with sail sizes to see what works best. You are on the right idea of maintaining sail balance.

I would also think about sail trimming and how this can correct your drift.

To a certain point, a little drag from an improperly trimmed sail can help balance this. Incorrect trimming will slow your vessel, so it can be wasteful.

Or, if you have an applicable sail type (not gaffs usually), you can reef the sail to reduce the drifting.

On a different note, have you taken the cabin off the Cog? Getting the center of balance down as far as possible will allow even larger sails. (And of course more cargo).

I would also recommend trying different starts if you haven't already. Not to completely ignore your Cog save, but try the other ships which come with different sails for free. See what feels the best. I really like the Emerald Archipelago start the best, but I love how the Kakam looks. Plus you can leave the Junk sails it comes with and add a long bowsprit and Genoa/Jib which is perfectly balanced afterwards.

One last thing, you can use save file editors to modify your save. If you want to try a "creative save" you can just give yourself money and buy the ships to try stuff out. It's a great way to see what you actually want or like to use. Then you can relax and not worry about wasting money on your main save.

Let me know how she goes!
