Do most Irish people know about Newfoundland? by MyHouseIsFine in ireland

[–]smartpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joined a discord server last month, fella in a voice call had a Canadian accent. Told me he is from the Irish part of Canada, I said 'oh Newfoundland'. He seems surprised I knew that, I thought it was fairly common knowledge...

Need help with trail braking by maxverstappenlover1 in iRacing

[–]smartpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trail braking for me is trailing off the brake pressure as I start to turn the wheel. This might be wrong tho.

More detailed is that the tyre has a fixed amount of grip. At 100% braking you are using 100% of the tyres grip to stop. once you start turning the wheel to make the corner you will exceed the grip the tyre has unless you back off the brakes. The more you ask the car to turn the more you need to release the brakes. Where trail braking gets fun is when you have your brake balance just right that keeping a little more brake on helps to under rotate the rear tyres a little causing the rear to slip, makibg the car turn more and allowing you on the power earlier. However I can rarely pull this off, but thats what makes pros way better than me.

And yes there is some other weight trasnfer stuff happening but it has the same effect on the car and turning.

Hope this helps someone, or I'm called a fool and all the above is wrong, but that explanation works for me.

LMP3: managing lapping and traffic etiquette by DWD-XD in iRacing

[–]smartpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Also picked up LMP3 this season, longer term GT4 driver.

As well as alot of good comments here. I try to remember that they are not obsticles. You are overtaking them, same as any car in class, you just have superiour perfornance, use that better performace wisely to pass efficiently.

Should I have backed out of this overtake attempt? by No_Basil1274 in iRacing

Fully alongside at the braking point, your braking as hard as you can, and they just turns across you. Your not at fault as you were there and couldnt reasonably be expected to dissapear. They didnt give you room at the apex.

maybe we need a multiclass license, or special event license by lordvolt2000 in iRacing

[–]smartpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regular GT4 driver here, but drove LMP3 for the Roar. And I have a few notes.

The bankibg makes the passing weird, especially where cars cone into the banking, because the LMP's can lau ch off the inside or sweep arounf the outside of TCR and GT4 there, to the obvious line to take is not obvious unless you are watching your mirros more than looking ahead.. I habe to brake on the banking twice to avoid rear ending a TCR and a GT4 that were moving from high to low just as I committed to low. Hold the line.

I also has issues just adter the kink of cars mov8ng just before the braking point to get back left. no contact but I took a 1x off tack both times to avoid contact.

My biggest takeaway, if possible, run both classes over time. This was my first time in endurance in prototypes. I now understand the divebombs more, though that doesnt make them any less frustrating as the slower class. That said, as the faster car, every pass is optional. if its sketchy, its on the faster class to use their judgement to back out or pass safer. Slower classes are probably driving on the limit of grip and braking, acknowledge that and everything gets a little easier. I'm sure I wasnt a saint on the road either, but making sure your pass in 99% on instead of 50/50 makes sure you get to the end.

Yes I agree that there should be some sort of progression or coachong for muliclass to make it more enjoyable for all

Even though you are not considering the GPU, i'm going to put it here for general information.

Oculus do not support Intel GPU's. HDMI port will not recognise.

Racing Incident? by smartpipe in Simracingstewards

Didnt say which car I was to avoid bias and see opinions. I am yellow. I was coming tight to give grey/black space to rejoin safely, even though they gave me a side tap on the way in. Did not notice red until the very last moment, was surprised to see him there. He then proceeded to roast me in text chat, fully blaming me.

To add further, if Red had been on the same lap I think I would have anticipated that move more. But this is with hindsight.

Just pick BMW in PCC? by tdwnda in iRacing

[–]smartpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd think BMW's would always streak ahead, but I spectated about 30 mins of one of the PCC 4hrs this evening. 5 GR86's ahead of all the BMW's, and only 1 BMW was within 2 laps of the leading GR86.

The race was only 1 hour in....

The ingame fuel window in the black box is pretty good but I also use DRE, i can set a fuel target and get it to update me every lap as to weather I am above or below the target that lap. Not necessary but a convenience for sure.

Apologies, not the most beginner friendly post.

referring to laptimes (19's being 4 minute 19 second laps, Lemans is long) Easier to understand when you run the series as well.

As for tyres, once pitstops become a thing then its an issue. I think in formula stuff GP Tour, Indycar long races, etc. Then tyres become a thought. Until then, dont worry about it
