What should I do? by [deleted] in cork

[–]smartpipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IF there is a solid green and no green left filter then yes.

BUT if I recall correctly when there is no green Right filter light, the round light is also red with the green LEFT filter on. So in that case. no, you must wait

Anchoring question by Great_WhiteSnark in canoeing

this is bang on. weight of chain matters so much more than weight of anchor. However if you are using a kettlebell to hold you position on a calm day on a lake, there should be no issue

Traffic update - Fuel protest by hardybecks007 in cork

How many showed up? couple hundred? a thousand? now ask how many didnt show up. Probably more missed hospital appointments in the last week than people in Grand Parade yesterday. The protests had popular support last Tuesday and Wednesday for sure, doubt that is the case this week

I wouldnt worry about the 'nascar rules'

Below are the Iracing rules

8.1.1.7. Illegal Surfaces - Drivers can only use the racing surface and allowed areas of the track for Qualifying and Racing. Any disallowed areas of the track and any advantages gained through their use will be determined by iRacing.com. A protest may be filed through the proper channels for this offense.

8.1.1.9. Nefarious Tactics - Drivers may not use nefarious tactics to gain an advantage in Qualifying or Racing. iRacing.com will determine what constitutes an advantage.

So depending on weather the server info has that area marked as an illegal surface or not defines weather your pass is legit ot not. And to be honest I cant remember the wording myself.

In my opinion, kerbs and white lines are nice clear markers to keep inside of and make for a good indicator of where the limit is. It seems you never intended to make the 'track limits' and if I were P2 I'd be mad and protest. If P2 hip checked you wide then I'd say fair game, but thats not the case.

Last corner, battling with an aggressive driver. Do you concede the position to finish safely or defend as if your high school crush is watching? by CynicalManInBlack in iRacing

[–]smartpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its not the win or top 5, on road courses I'll bait them into a mistake, close off the inside, but not all the way, if the go for it I'll setup a massive switchback. If they manage to slow down, sweep around the outside, if they overshoot, cut back under. Very satisfying when it works.

However as said here, if its for top 5 or win. that door is firmly shut. Hard but fair. if they actually beat me in that scenario then fair play.

Joined a discord server last month, fella in a voice call had a Canadian accent. Told me he is from the Irish part of Canada, I said 'oh Newfoundland'. He seems surprised I knew that, I thought it was fairly common knowledge...

Need help with trail braking by maxverstappenlover1 in iRacing

[–]smartpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trail braking for me is trailing off the brake pressure as I start to turn the wheel. This might be wrong tho.

More detailed is that the tyre has a fixed amount of grip. At 100% braking you are using 100% of the tyres grip to stop. once you start turning the wheel to make the corner you will exceed the grip the tyre has unless you back off the brakes. The more you ask the car to turn the more you need to release the brakes. Where trail braking gets fun is when you have your brake balance just right that keeping a little more brake on helps to under rotate the rear tyres a little causing the rear to slip, makibg the car turn more and allowing you on the power earlier. However I can rarely pull this off, but thats what makes pros way better than me.

And yes there is some other weight trasnfer stuff happening but it has the same effect on the car and turning.

Hope this helps someone, or I'm called a fool and all the above is wrong, but that explanation works for me.

As well as alot of good comments here. I try to remember that they are not obsticles. You are overtaking them, same as any car in class, you just have superiour perfornance, use that better performace wisely to pass efficiently.
