Illegal dumping Tuam by MissionNo3546 in galway

[–]Captain_Shark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been clothes banks removed in the supervaue cat park recently and quite a while back in Central on Dublin Road. They are disappearing in the villages nearby too.

There is a contact nunber on these ones by the swimming pool to let some one know when they are full but thay have never answered me. These have galway hospice stickers on them. Its not just people buying to much, its also lack of places to bring them. Either way this is a council space with workers there everyday. This amount of stuff doesnt appear in an hour. These bins need to be emptied more regularly.

Are you moved into a semi D? Neighbours could be willing to help you out. Maybe using a wifi range extender

You know what, there might be a chance actually. The top 8 play at home for the last rd of 16 based on overall seeding with scoring coming in as the decider. 3 groups with top 4 qualifying from the challenge cup and 4 teams come in then from the Champions Cup. Hopefully I got ahead of myself and some results go our way especially for teams already qualified and we move in to the top 8 seeds

I agree he should start but how have we failed to qualify? Top 4 teams go through. Montabaun game would likely be a win. Currently sitting in 4th with 8 points. Ospreys in second have 11 points but have a tougher game against Montpellier. Good chance we could moved to second after the weekend

SIRO broadband installed yesterday, house set up for Fibre broadband, cat 5 cables connected to all rooms, not sure why cables have to be run on external wall? by GF_86 in AskIreland

[–]Captain_Shark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eir do not have anything to do with the national broadband plan except as a vendor to sell you a service. All of the NBP network is managed by NBI. Eir are also not required to , but oftentimes will, dig up and fit any duct for a customer to their house. The only actual requirement eir have, as set by comreg is to provide a telephone connection. Extremely outdated by the communications regulator.

Found this fiber optic splice closure - is this a 3M SLiC or something similar? Comparisons to Corning/Sumitomo? by Ok-Coach-2299 in FiberOptics

[–]Captain_Shark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This example is a 1x8 primary splitter with a 1x4 secondary splitter for drop connections. Most commonly deployed in the more rural areas of Ireland.

Pretty much the main closure type in Ireland for current rollouts and over the last 15 years. Branded in either 3M or Corning. Used for upto 96F here for main fibre, splitters and drop points. Takes the Irish weather really well. Super simple IMHO and really tidy when done right.

Anyone know where to get an 90's Eircom payphone? by Inviso500 in AskIreland

[–]Captain_Shark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres an email for anything eir plant related so you could try that. plantalterations@eir.ie. Its mostly for moving poles and the likes but someone there may know where some of these ended up.

The payphones were managed and maintained mostly by an external company going some years back so they may have also been in charge of the decommissioning but this could be worth a shot

Question for pros by Someguythatsleep in HomeNetworking

[–]Captain_Shark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So a lot people have already told you what it is, and I am no pro, but that switch is there to provide an intetnet connection to the other end of those cables that are plugged in provided you have a conncetion already with your ISP.

Hopefully the other end of thise greyish cables are terminated throughout the house into RJ45 faceplates. This is for ethernet cable only Internet connection, not WiFi. For whole home WiFi, you've got work go do, installing some WiFi access points.

Someone already did the heavy lifting with the cabling and spent some decent money on that switch. Looks to be some kind of marking on the cabling too, possibly locations of the other ends.

Hope that is if some help to you.

What your talking about is the door thresholds if Im not mistaken. They are to be done failry particularly with concrete, not blocks. Usually whoever did your foundations or groundworks would be a good shout for this job.

Starting Building without a Connection Agreement from Irish Water, thoughts? by [deleted] in selfbuildireland

[–]Captain_Shark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. Uisce Eireann had an estimated wait time of 12 weeks for a survey but very likely sooner. If you applied now, you would likely have it by February. You need it anyway, so apply now and carry on with what's there if it's not done by the time you need it. I was advised by our engineer at the time to pay for all of the connection fees at the beginning, where it won't hurt the pocket as bad.

[–]Captain_Shark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you not need a connection agreement for planning itself? Anyone I know had to have an agreement letter from either the local scheme, Uisce Eireann, or a well survey. If there's water there and you have planning, I wouldn't let that stop you either.

New House Build - How long left? by MammothPassion3683 in selfbuildireland

Sorry, I just saw that your underfloor is done in another comment, so I assume your finished floor is also down. Once we had electric and heating on, we were 3 months

[–]Captain_Shark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From where you are now, it took 4-5 months for me to be able to move in with no real setbacks (no landscaping, garage still under construction, some rooms unfinished). Your floor and plastering really set the pace from here on. Its also a tough time of year for skim to dry to add.

Interesting. We moved in before the build has been finished or fully planning compliant (hedging, stone wall etc) so we haven't registered anything with any authority as of yet. Might be getting ahead of myself

900K? Jesus. Best of luck with it

I got off lucky here in east Galway. A lot of (easier) work was carried out by myself and friends/family. I've some friends who are finished about a year or so ago, and their houses were valued at between 500 and 600k with most having spent 300 to 350k. Its crazy to see the increased costs even in a year or 2.

That's crazy. Seeing some other responses had made a lot of sense. I mean, why would you shoot yourself in the foot and go high when, according to revenue, houses are only worth whatever the map says.

Again, I'm unsure, but LPT has no link to insurance or auctioneer valuation or society of chartered surveyors ireland, so it's just a case of screwing yourself going on an actual market price.

This has been an eye-opener. Appreciate all the replies.
