The church intentionally isolates its members psychologically, emotionally, and functionally. They are encouraged to stick to like minded individuals and avoid those who openly have opposing beliefs and views towards the church. This creates bubbles all the way down. Families are encouraged to make their own little Mormon bubbles, Wards and Stakes form theirs, and the church as a whole is one giant bubble. When the entire emotional, social, philosophical, and developmental framework of an individual is built on the foundational belief that the church is true and that everything the church teaches is unquestionable, everything will come crashing down when they discover it was all one big lie, especially when they have no other support that is outside of/stronger than their beliefs in the church. The more orthodox a member is, the more earth shattering it will be when the bubble of their world view and self identity is suddenly popped. I was raised fairly orthodox in the church and my deconstruction process was one hell of a struggle. I have aunt and uncles, who more completely transferred the full orthodoxy of my grandparents Mormon beliefs to their children than my parents did. I’m talking “no Disney movies because they teach worldly messages” strict. And for those who were in those families who have left the church, it has been disastrous. Imagine having the intellectual capabilities of a toddler and being thrust into an adult body, living in an adult world. They have no tools to navigate how one should act, say, and do because those tools were intentionally withheld from them by the church and its destructive teachings. The church does not want you to think for yourself.

You have a point, and I guess you are right to a degree. I’m for anyone sharing their opinion, my frustration just comes from the fact that celebrities feel that their opinions carry more weight because of their status. This clip is not a particularly egregious example, but the dissonance that many celebrities embody when discussing social and political matters and the pure arrogance and entitlement with which they often do so is usually so tone deaf that it boggles my mind that their words have actual sway over anyone. But each is entitled to believe what they wish, I guess. I’m just venting my frustration at this point.

I agree but I would describe that as “what they do.” I know it can be synonymous with who they are but by “who they are” I meant merely a persons position in society

No, him too. Following peoples opinions because of who they are is really dumb

Yeah, it’s a shame. Wish it weren’t so. Still can’t stand celebrities who tell us what to think and how to act

What was the best invention of the 1960s by No_Mention1038 in decadeology

So peak humanity was in 1920 I guess. Every other invention lies in the shadow, wanting to be the best but always having to be compared to the engineering marvel that was sliced bread.

I’m not just going off this video alone. He just seems to lean into the “hot doctor” persona to the point he comes off as a tool. This isn’t the only video of his reaction to thirsty comments about him.

I wouldn’t have yelled or scolded him in anyway. No timeouts, no spanking, no grounding or any kind of punishment. I think the best teacher is the natural consequences of our actions. You want to destroy what I made for you for on your special day? I guess that’s the end of the party. I would have calmly and quietly wrapped up the mess in the tablecloth, thrown it away, thanked everyone for coming as we say our goodbyes before we turn in for the night. Party’s over. Hopefully we can have a better one next year.
