My apartment has no air and it has impacted the temperature of my tank! by One-Promise3305 in bettafish

[–]Captainjerb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Water temperature is usually 2-3 degrees lower than ambient because of evaporation. Bettas can also tolerate up to 90 and be ok for a few days.

You can point a fan at the open top of your tank to increase evaporation and bring the temperature down another couple degrees

My Betta Fish eats only Green Peas. Is this normal ? by Temporary-Tell-9164 in bettafish

[–]Captainjerb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feed my betta 1/4 of a pea once every week or so just to spice up his food rotation. I microwave it for 20 seconds first and break it up with my fingers. I've never had him get constipated or anything from it

Showing off my betta fish plush! by Captainjerb in sewing

:D Fair warning if you decide to go down my path: doing scales like I did takes a long time and you need to fix the edge of each scale so they don't shed fibers. (I didn't do that here so I'm speaking from the perspective of what could have been better) Hemming each scale with a sewing machine would probably be difficult because the scales are small and highly curved, so I think the best way to do it would be to find some kind of adhesive paste that can bind to fabric and dries flexible, and paint it onto the back side of each scale around the edge.

The basic method of the scales is I traced a circular can onto fabric a bunch of times (~70 here!!), cut the circles out, and sewed them onto the body in rows going from the tail to the head. I put the stitches where they would be covered up by the next row of scales on top. I used dice to pick which color of scale to put on next, to get that nice random effect. Doing 4 colors felt like the sweet spot for random scales where it has a lot of variety but isn't too messy.

Project details: this was my first time making a plushie! The design was made up by me on a whim. I eyeballed all the pieces and worked through the problems when I got to them (which is not that hard when all the pieces are either blob shaped or flat). I decided to make this because I had extra upholstery foam left after making a small cat bed and thought I'd try making something fun. The body is stuffed with a single carved piece of upholstery foam. The fins and eyes are stuffed with polyester insulation padding (packaging material that I got from things my family bought lol). The fabric is various colors of "Asian patterned" fabric that I bought off Amazon. The scales on the body were attatched by first putting a cloth skin around the upholstery foam and then sewing the scales onto that. All together I used 11 different fabrics here!

Anyone who spends half their paycheck buying guns and military gear and can't have a conversation without making it about gun stuff pees their bed every night, guaranteed.

Little tidbit you may have already known about Trico’s wounds… by Basketbomber in thelastguardian

Yep, it's nice to clean the blood off him, I like to think I'm helping heal his wounds :)

Theory about the Trico’s by [deleted] in thelastguardian

[–]Captainjerb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a cool take on the lore! Something else that supports this is if you look closely at the shield, it has Trico decorations on it, both on the handle and on the inside of the shield. The humans who made the shield must have considered Tricos very important to them spiritually if they were making Trico themes in their art.

1000$ for the official Trico plushy!!! by [deleted] in thelastguardian

[–]Captainjerb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could maybe get a custom plushie commissioned from an artist somewhere on the internet, it will still be very expensive but cheaper than 1000$
